My Bosch WFF2001 stopped working – water went in and out but drum didn’t turn. I cleaned the connectors to the motor and it ran once or twice more but then stopped again. Cleaned them again and it now runs again. Looking inside while it is running there is a crackle and significant arcing from the motor – indicator of brushes worn out I believe. How do I check and change the brushes? Do I need to take the motor out? Is it safe to run it on in this state (have a family with small children so washer runs 1-2 times a day) while I sort it?

Hi, first of all it is almost definitely the brushes that have worn down, secondly, stop using it as you may cause damage to the motor and/or the control unit.

You will have to remove the motor to replace the brushes, if you are unsure, call an engineer, and whatever you do, make sure it’s unplugged from the mains before attempting anything.

    Regards

Thanks Dave. I am always very careful with electricity anyway.

Motor safely removed, brushes changed and all now working fine. Not such a difficult job in the end as I had feared.
