ParticipantHi there – looks like a great forum. Looking to see if there are any thoughts out there on what to try to fix a draining problem. I have an HJA 8630 bought through Howdens – 3 years old. I understand that this is a relabeled Beko, seems they don’t have such a great reputation. Nevertheless, I’m trying to get this one back up and running.
Initial problem was the unit reaching the end of a cycle and not draining. I’ve checked filters (nothing obvious), hauled it out, had the sides off, taken drain hose of at the motor, blown it through, no blockage there. I put the machine on a 45 second program that is supposed to drain any residual water. The dishwasher hummed for 45 seconds and then stopped. The humming sounds like there is power getting to the motor and it’s trying to do something – hence my conclusion (at this stage) that the pump is jammed.
Access to the pump is tricky and I’m not entirely sure how to get at it/get it out to check for a blockage.
Any other thoughts or other things to check. If anyone knows a trick on how to get access to the pump that would be much appreciated.
thanks

Yep, sounds like something in the drain pump….
IIRC the pump is a twist fit but has one locking screw which you will need to remove..this is viewable from the front and the pump is removed from the RHS as you look at the front of the machine.
Be very careful about removing and refitting the pump, the lugs that hold it on are made of cottage cheese 😕
Once it’s off you can unscrew the chamber to access the impellor 😉

Spot on!
Your advice was the confidence I needed to dig a bit deeper. I never found a locking screw and the pump was on the LHS but never mind, a very firm twist and the whole assembly came off the sump. Cleaned the impellor and surfaces – didn’t find anything substantial. A small piece of eggshell was the firmest bit of debris I found. I think I was expecting a chicken bone or something equally big. Anyway, ran the pump fine before refitting. Ran fine after refitting, ran the short rinse cycle and it all drained away. Problem solved (I think) and wiser about my machine.
Many many thanks. Your advice was hugely valuable and it is much appreciated.

Hi,
This sounds exactly the problem I have with my integrated HJA 8630.
Could I ask a fairly dumb question please?
Do I have to pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet or can I access the cover from the inside, eg the screws around the filter area?
thanks,John

I did all the work by pulling the unit out from under the worktop, undoing the various screws that hold on a small front panel (below the door) and the LHS side panel. THis gave sufficient access.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their posts in this thread! My HJA 8630 (Howden’s Lamona brand – 2 years old) stopped draining the day after we broke a glass inside the dishwasher. By following the advice here I have been able to fix it.
I didn’t need to pull the dishwasher out from its housing. I just removed the metal panel from the bottom front of the dishwasher. (In order to do to this I had to also remove the kickboard and the kitchen unit panel on the front of the door).
Once the front panel was off I could see the drain pump at the front left hand side (identifiable by the drain hose being connected just behind it). There was no retaining screw. I just had to give the pump a firm twist and it came off. Didn’t have to disassemble the pump – I found a piece of glass in the chamber the pump plugs into. This must have been stopping the impeller from turning. Took the glass out, checked everything else was clean then put it all back together and it drains fine.
Saved myself a callout charge. Many thanks for the advice!
