ParticipantHello. My fridge freezer is playing up. It’s from John Lewis and is about 4 years old. The fridge was not reaching the right temperature and was making a funny noise, so took it apart and found that the plastic fan housing was broken. I replaced this so it’s no longer making a noise but the fridge is only cooling to +15 degrees (though feels a little cooler) and the freezer is -25. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be? Thanks Jon

Hello
Yes, here are some further details…
Make: John Lewis
Model: JLFFW1803The temperatures on the digital display are displaying…
Fridge + 14
Freezer – 27…changing the setting for each appears to make no difference however I’m going to buy a thermometer today to test the actual temperatures.
Thanks

Was there any ice formed around the evaporator fan area when you changed parts?

Before changing the fan housing I let it defrost for at least 72 hrs so didn’t see any ice around it. I did however notice a large build up of ice at the front of the freezer after removing the small plastic cover (that has the push switch for the fan on). The evaporation tray at the back was also full of water. Thanks

I got a thermometer and the temperatures are:
Fridge – +22
Freezer – 24
Which is pretty much as per the digital display.January 18, 2011 at 7:38 pm #341029Seamy

Sounds like the fan is not running correctly or that there a blockage in the vent to fridge.

Hi, I am having similar probs with a whirlpool – similar but not same.
When my fridge freezer starts up after a manual defrost the freezer goes mad and feezes like urs to -24 ish the fan that blows the cold from the freezer into the fridge works fine but blows too much cold into fridge and freezes stuff in there too —- until after a couple of weeks when the ice builds up again on the evaporator preventing the fan blown air passing over it to cool before being blown into the fridge compartment thus the fridge then starts to warm up.
Daft question form a none engineer – 1) are your fan blades fitted the right way round so as to move/push the air in the right direction – or alternatively 2)is the fan motor running/rotating in the right direction to send the cold air along the ducting to the fridge.
Sorry – I am not a fridge engineer – just a guy struggling with his own set of fridge freezer problems – I fear I might even be talking Bo110cks.
