    Hi All –

I have a White Westinghouse Oven in the house (there before I moved in) and the main oven has stopped working. It is a 205303/1 model (from what i can read on the inside of the main oven).

The main oven doesn’t work – top one is fine.

The problem – difficult to describe – when i switch the oven on – the digital clock is flashing. I usually had to set the time and press the “select” button to the right hand side of the clock. (There are also plus and minus butons). However, the time only sticks for a quarter second before there is a “clicking” sound from behind the clock and then it resets to 00:00 again and keeps on flashing. This doesnt stop the top oven from working, just the main oven.

I seem to remember the same thing happening a while back, but after a few tries at setting the time – it stuck and then the oven would start heating up.

I have absolutely no clue about this – someone mentioned it may have something to do with the thermostat not working and then not allowing the oven to kick in – does this sound like what it could be?

I would probably be able to fit the thermostat myself if i was sure that’s what it was – but does this look like the part in Question:

Cheers for all the help – im happy enough with the top oven but the missus can only fit pizzas in it!

Forgot to add – the oven light comes on and fan spins but no heat. But the oven never heated up unless the time was selected/set. Also – forgot to add for that quarter sec a small light beside the clock lights up and then goes off with the click.

    Cheers folks!

It actually sounds like the clock is faulty and that would stop the main oven from working. It basically acts like a big mains switch when used as a timer.

The really bad news is that, from what I can see the part is no longer available. The only ones still around are what is used on other models.

Could it not just be a faulty fan element Ken? 😕

Missed that bit, could be. I got sidetracked by the clock malarky as that’s just not right and it sounds like one of the relays is switching over when it shouldn’t be from the description.

In any event, the clock cutting out like that just ain’t right. 😉

Whether it’s worth chucking in an element or not, dunno. Might do the trick and it’s not an expensive one, listed here

Re: White Westinghouse Oven Problem – Thermostat?

    Guys – much appreciated.

I actually replaced the element of the fan oven about a year or so back – worked fine up until last month anyway. But the symptoms of the element going were different – the clock lit up fine, just no heat coming into the oven.

Bad job then if the clock is gone – a new oven i take it!?

Any more info you need to help im happy to give!

    Cheers again guys.

I’ve had the same problem with my DeLonghi oven. The clock wouldn’t set, so wouldn’t allow me to use the oven. If you’re confident, its easy to bypass the clock completely so you can get the oven working again. It’s a bit annoying having the clock flash all the time, but it will get you out of trouble until you replace the unit.

    Thanks for the response.

Not entirely confident, but have a friend that would probably be able to do it – don’t mind having the clock flashing at all – a bypass would more than suffice if the oven got going again! Cheers for that new take on it Pat!

On a side note – it was stated above that i might run into a bit of bother sourcing it – wold this contraption suit for my oven???
