ParticipantHi all
I wonder if anyone can help with a problem on my machine. The wife said it made a loud bang then made a scraping noise before she quickly turned it off.
I’ve had a look around this fantastic forum and tried a few of the tests to see if it might be the bearings or motor. the motor sounds fine and the test for the bearings seems to be ok. I get a scraping noise when i turn the drum by hand in about 3 places, roughly in line with the paddles inside the drum. I’m thinking something has got in between the drum and the housing and wandered if it was a) worth stripping down and b) how hard is it
The wife wants a new one as it’s about 8 years old now but then she ain’t paying 🙂
Cheers and Happy New Year

I think you may be a little out on the age, don’t think it is that old but it is well past its sell by date in any event.
It has a totally sealed drum so there is nothing you can strip down.
Do yourself a favour and invest in something decent. 😉

If you are getting a scraping noise when you rotate the drum by hand it may be something like a bra wire between the two drums.
Get a small torch and place it in the bottom of the inner drum so some of the light shines through the holes, rock the drum left to right and look through the holes, sometimes it is possible to see if anything is sitting in the bottom.
You should see the element in the bottom and quite often if there is a bra wire it will be in that area.
If that is unsuccessful you could remove the element and look through the hole, the problem with this approach is were the element seal would have been compressed for such a long time it will be extremely difficult refitting.
If you are not able to find anything then as iadom says, replace it, but not with an Indesit. Look through the forums on what to buy and more importantly what not to buy.

Hi maygood,
If you find your machine cant be repaired and you want something really good that will last, then look no further than the link on here to the ISE website and buy yourself the fantastic ISE10 1607, a superb machine 😀 . I am the proud owner of one and would never buy another make again and as with my usage, one load a day, it should last 22 years then i wont be anytime soon anyhow 😀
I honestly could not recommend the machine, the people at ISE and their after sales service highly enough 😀 😀
Have a read of the website and i am sure your head will be turned from the ‘throwaway’ rubbish on sale on the high street nowadays, mine sure was :lesson:
kind regards
