    Hi,
Can anyone advise me please? I have a Crede Tumble Dryer (model number 37748E) that keeps tripping the RCD on the distribution board and I figure that it’s probably the heater element that needs replacing. Is this the most likely cause and if so do you happen to know what the part number is for a replacement part? Many thanks.

The most likley problem is an earth fault in the heater & thermostats.

In the pump unit there is a small hole from behind the condenser unit that allows the condensed water to run into the pump chamber. If this hole gets blocked it allows the water to fill bhind the condenser unit and overflow in the fan area below the heater, the fan then sprays the water up into the heater and causes the fault.

The heater unit which is available herehttp://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Tumble+Dryer+Parts/Creda/Heating+Elements/1701169+Hotpoint+Creda+Tumble+Dryer+Heater+Element.html.

If you remove the heater cover on the rear of the machine (please make sure the machine is unplugged) you should see the heater will be wet.
If you decide to replace the heater make sure the blockage is clear and the machine drains.

No pump on this older model, its the one with the water container under the condensor. 😉

As this heating element is very expensive I would strongly advise you to test all components with a suitable multimeter or megger before ordering and parts.

I have seen bra wires get stuck in this particular element on more than one occasion.

    Hi,

I have just replaced the heater unit and that seems to have stopped it tripping the RCD however it still doesn’t even get warm. One of the two thermostats seems to be stuck so its a very likely candidate for replacement but is there anything else that I should check out before going down this route? Could you also let me know the part number for the thermostats.

    Many thanks,
    Wizz

    😕
AFAIK the proper heater kit comes complete with new stats. ❓

Did you fit a genuine, new one?

Also not sure what you mean by ‘one of the the two thermostats seems to be stuck’ what do you mean by ‘stuck’?

The stats should be tested with a Megger or suitable multimeter for continuity.

You should not press on the bases of the thermostats under any circumstances, if you do that on the ‘one shot’ safety stat then you will break it.

You should not change any part unless you have determined that the original part is actually faulty in the first place.

Re: Creda Tumble Dryer trips the RCD on High setting…..

The heater kit that I fitted was purchased this week from UK White Goods spares (see web-link kindly supplied by “Twoten” back in January: heater (corrected link)) but no thermostats were supplied, I had to transfer the old ones to the new unit. Its an expensive part (£74.54 + delivery) so if the stats should be included then the kit was incomplete. Sadly it was delivered mid week so I am now well outside the 24 hour period to notify about missing parts. The description does not mention any stats either so are you sure they should be supplied as part of the kit?

Thanks for the warning about not pressing the bases of the stats… oops! too late, I did, so sounds like I definitely need to replace them anyway.

Re: Creda Tumble Dryer trips the RCD on High setting…..

Funny, when I follow either link it does not lead to a heater. 😕

Not every element has stats included and it is a couple of years since I last used one of these so they may not be part of the kit unlike most other element kits..

Although looking at the PICTURE it clearly shows the thermostats at the bottom ( picture is upside down BTW ) :con:

I did mention that it was a very expensive element and £74+ is slightly under the list price.

The stat kit you require is THIS one.

Many thanks for your help. I’ve placed an order for new stats now using the link that you supplied… for which many thanks! If I have any more problems then doubtless I’ll be back next weekend.

    Best regards,
