had problems with the machine for the past 6-8 months not rinsing or drying properly. Finally it ended a couple of days ago when the heater obviously went as the wash did not clean at all. The wash before something must have went as it triped the main RCD. The wife had teh washing machine and dishwasher both on at the time so it was difficult to identify the problem.

Any how I thought I would look at changing the heater element and noted a number of potential alternative faults on this forum. I therefore:

    1. Inspected the PCBs and checked the soilder joints. Two on teh relay look slightly discourted but still o.k.

    2. Checked all wireing to ensure no loose connections.

    3. Took inline heating element out and it looked fine, but I have yet to try teh multi meter across the terminals to check the resistance.

Put all back together and restarted the machine to see if it worked, but noticed a small leak from the rubber pipe going to the heater element, which although i mended set of the antiflood switch.

I tilted the machine etc and emptied all the water and left it to dry over night. However now have a fault light flashing in sequence 2 short flashs – Manual refers to sink spigot is blocked or drain hose is not correctly posistioned.

    Any ideas?

I can put a cup of water in eth machine, it will drain out in the first part of teh cycle, then there is a pause before the next cycle which lasts about 30 sec before the fault lights come up again. No water enters the machine.

It was a £300 machine almost 5 years ago, so I am tempted to scrap it and buy another. Happy to spend £50 if it gets it going.

Sounds like it has not draining, or does not signal that it has drained, possible blockage of gunge in small thin tube to pressure switch.

    Seamy,

Thanks for the reply. I had a look at the pressure switch and it seems there was a bit of dirt in there. I have cleared the pipe and the switch is working when I suck and blow it. However I may have got the wires mixed up. I assume it doesn’t matter which side of the switch either of the main wires are attached to given that it is a switch. However there is a secondary (Black) Wire that goes to the PCB which I assume connects to the main wire from the heather element?

I have tested the heater element and it does it is faulty. I thinka new machine is the way forward. 5 years with a family of four is plenty for these machines now a days.

Will probably go with the Bosch SGS 57A02GB and take 5yr warrenty for £80!

Any value for the AEG as part on ebay or simply take it to the dump?

Just had a small thought – Could replace the pressure switch and heating element kit. What is teh difference between “50290104004 Manifold Kit” and “50277796004 Element” They seem to both contain a heating element but teh kit is cheaper! Do you know if Whitegoods sell a suitable pressure switch?

Say £60, could repair the machine for a while again, albeit teh PCB will no doubt go next!!
