ParticipantHi,
I previously posted on the 13th Jan about my Hoover frost free fridge/freezer, model number HNMF2805A80 in which the fridge section was too cold and freezing food and liquids in the fridge. I tried turning the fridge/freezer off for a couple of days in case this was due to the channels being blocked with ice. This didn’t resolve the issue so I made the assumption that it was probably the temperature sensor. I ordered this part and it arrived last week. To test it, before cutting away any insulation, I have tried leaving the sensor outside of the fridge and, as expected, the fridge to froze. I then placed the sensor inside the fridge and hoped that the sensor would detect when it was too cold, but again the fridge froze (even with the dial turned down to 1). Does this indicate that the reading from the sensor is still not being read properly and if so is this likely to be a pcb problem? I have also tried trapping the sensor in the freezer. This does result in the fridge warming up, but so does the freezer. If is is likely to be a pcb problem is there a way of testing it before I order a new one?
Many thanks in advance.

hi ,if you turn the temp knob to the off position does the fridge /freezer carry on running if it does it will be a board fault if it switches off when turned manualy to the off position change the sensor ,the sensor picks up the evaporater temp. so will have to be fitted in its correctly designed position .The only other reason the fridge is freezing would be if it has lost a bit of refrigerant ..but try the other things first Cras

Hi Cras,
Many thanks for your reply. The fridge/freezer does switch off when the temp knob is turned to the off position. I guess we’re just going to have to take the plunge and cut away the insulation at the back to replace the sensor! Don’t suppose you can provide any advice on where I can locate the sensor/where to cut? Someone suggested that there was some sort of kit/template available(?), but I didn’t know where to find this.
Many thanks.

there is a template giving you the measurements ,i did have one at one time but no longer have it and go from memory now ,so looking at the back its normally on the left hand side aprox 4 inches from the side and about 8 inches down from memory ,cut backing with a stanley knife ,then dig out the insulation and you will come across the old sensor stuck down with silver tape ,i normally cut the old sensor off and re make the new one on the end by soldering the cables and using heat shrink to seal ,i know that lots of engineers use foam in a can to re insulate but i usualy use fibreglass insulation( it was good enough for a 1950 s fridge 😆 ) tightly packed in and use aluminium foil tape to re seal the back . hope that helps i may not be accurate with the measurements but its in that area Cras ps power off first course

Spot on! Took some digging, but there it was approx 4 inches in, 8 inches down! Thank you so much for your help – without it I would have probably gone looking down the right hand side and destroyed the entire back of the fridge! I haven’t fitted the new one yet – I have one further question – would it be acceptable to use a couple of connectors to attach the new sensor as opposed to soldering the cables together?
Many thanks

i have seen it done ,but leave the connectors poking out and hide behind the condensor to avoid the damp getting in Cras

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for your help. Put the fridge/freezer back together and switched it back on yesterday. Just put a bowl of water inside over night and this morning it was not frozen! Haven’t filled it up just yet as going to monitor it today, but fingers crossed problem’s solved.
