The machine seems to have something small and hard or metallic, trapped between the perforated drum and the outer drum housing. It makes a right racket when the spin cycle starts, but I can hear it if I rotate the drum by hand. It’s ‘just there’ if you know what I mean.

It’s probably a coin or a bit of the wife’s jewellery, though god knows how it got in there.

In all respects, the machine is working fine, it’s just noisy, so I’m convinced it’s a foreign body, not a bit of the machine.

Thing is, how do I get it out? Can I get to it via the seal, or is it a back off job?

If you give us the correct model number we will be better able to help you. 😉

A good chance it will begin with A.

These machines are now nearly all 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Indesit machines but some are based on a more robust earlier Hotpoint design.

Several different drum, hose, seal combinations.

Some even have the dreaded sealed outer drum, access is very limited on those. 😉

    It’s OK. I found it!

By sticking my head inside the drum and shining a torch through the holes I could see something. A length of bent wire and a period of fishing through the gap between the seal and the inner drum and I managed to get the object to where I could see it in the narrow gap at the front. Hooked it out. No idea what it is but part of a washing machine it definitely is not! Drum turns smoothly now. Woohoo!

    Bra wire. 😆

Along with coins the most common drum obstruction we come across. 😉

Hand wash them or put them inside an old pillowcase and secure with a couple of good quality safety pins.
