    Hello Everyone.

I have just had a new drum pulley delivered from UK Whitegoods as my old one sheared off. I found the remainder of the pulley and the belt on the floor when removing the back plate of the washing machine.

Can someone tell me how to remove the remainder of old one. I have a 17mm socket and wrench which seems to fit the centre bolt perfectly. I try to remove the fixing bolt but the drum also turns as I turn the wrench. I have tried holding the drum but no amount of effort seems to be enough to remove bolt or stop drums from turning too.

Is there a way to lock the drum down so that bolt removal is easier?

Your help is VERY MUCH appreciated.
    Regards, Jay

I thought they were held on with T23 Torx headed bolts? 😕

Anyway, whatever you have the bolt has been put in place with Loctite sealant which requires application of local heat (i.e Blowtorch) to ease removal. Meanwhile what remains of the pulley will have to be secured fully with Molegrips or a Stillson type wrench before attempting removal. Alternatively, another pair of hands holding the inner drum as secure as possible whilst you attempt removal of the bolt.

    Not easy but good luck!:D

    Hi there,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I’ve had the washer since new (10 or 11 years?). It’s a good runner (up til now) so I thought I would attempt this myself since a new pulley seems all that is required.

The old pulley is definately secured with an ordinary bolt (17mm seems about right but I haven’t tried the nearest imperial measurement). I have had the other half try to hold the inner drum but she’s not strong enough… actually respect to her because it seems neither am I.

I had no idea that they are secured with loctite sealant but I do have a heat gun so I could try that. Do you know how long I should apply the heat. Would I also need to give the bolt a light ‘crack’ of encouragement using a hammer to break any locking seal?

I thought that this would be a 15minute job… obviously nothing is ever that easy 😉

    Regards, Jay

I forgot to mention that there isn’t that much left of the old pulley… actually it broke off more or less flush so it just looks like a washer left behind and the pulley (other than missing a bit and having a very rough edge) looks almost 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} complete. 😮

Would I have to put loctite sealant on the replacement pulley also? Can anyone recommend which to use and how much?

Bl**dy hell not on the pulley, just Loctite nutlok on the bolt thread will do, available from any DIY store/motor factors.

Hi Martin… Thanks… I didn’t actually mean on the pulley itself 🙂 .. but how it could have been read that way…

I meant…(as you kindly described) use sealant when fitting the replacement pulley. i.e. on the bolt/ thread when I have replaced it.

    Thanks
