Went to this dishwasher fault was not pumping out, removed the pump & fitted replacement Askoll pump. Now when switched on pumps out , starts to fill, after a short time (couple of minutes) E1 code (not filling fast enough) comes up before the pressure switch is switched on. If I proceed to fill & activate the pressure switch by blowing into it, the circulation pump comes on immediately followed by E4 (overfill) & immediately starts to empty. Anyone any ideas? Anyone got a service manual/ circuit diagram.

Overfill position on some (possibly most) p/switches doesn’t give an audible click, and it’s not far past the high level. So easy to activate it unintentionally when you blow into it.

As there are 2 wires going to the pressure switch I had assumed there would only be 2 positions on/off.

    Not an analogic one?

I think it must be. I have traced the wires. One wire to the pressure switch is connected directly to the incoming live without going through the mains switch. The other goes back to the control PCB also connected to the pump & the anti flood micro switch. I have ordered a new pressure switch, hope this will sort it.

Looked up Baumatic p/switches on Connect and only saw conventional ones including an oval one with two tags. Anyway, can’t envisage an analogic switch getting a direct live feed.
Looking over your first post again, I can’t see that you could activate the p/sw by blowing without getting the tube off. Water would then be able to flow out of the p/vessel, into the base activating the f/p sw and voila! E4.
Was it taking too long to fill? How long? Is water pressure too low, or inlet valve filter clogged?
I’m feeling round in the dark here as I don’t recall ever having seen a Baumatic machine of any description but I believe they’re a bit like low budget Indesit.

    OK sorted.
It wasn’t the pressure switch , which turned out to be a red herring. The pressure switch acts only as an overfill protector hence when I connected a piece of tubing to it & blew down into it got E4 (overfill error)

I took a look at the air breather tank ( which I should have done in the first place if I had understood how it measures the water) On the air breather tank there is a flow meter (a little water wheel that spins around at the water inlet, this in turn activates a reed switch, switching on & off as the water wheel spins). Presumably the control logic counts the pulses from the reed switch & determines the correct water quantity required.
The plug & lead which attaches to the reed switch is held in place by a glob of hot glue. When I took this plug off, cleaned the contacts & put it back on the machine started to fill correctly. I must have disturbed the contact when I took the machine apart to replace the pump.

Not necessarily. That’s what you find in a cheap and cheerless dishwasher from China. I did a couple similar branded as Hoover.
The flow meter as you described is also a common feature (and source of breakdowns) on Whirlpool (& clones) and Bosch (& clones) dishwashers.
