    Hello everyone. 😀

Has anyone any experience of these machines not heating?

This machine gets a lot of use (and abuse) and is used constantly. Over the last few weeks, the running time of a normal program has got longer. We’re now finding that the machine is not heating. Up to recently it was not heating intermittently, now, not at all. I’ve read that these machines are prone to getting clogged, also that the ‘pressure switch’ if not activated will not ‘tell’ the control section that there is enough water in the machine. Consequently, no power via a relay to the heater element.

After 10 mins or so running, I’ve opened the door to check the water level, there’s about half an inch or so at the bottom. Is this right?

    Anyone come across this?

My work is with electrical products, I’ve got access to a multimeter etc, so I’m happy doing some checks with the machine ‘on’. Safely I should add!

Thanks to anyone who can offer some advice

    Regards, samjmann.

There are 3 main probs that cause no heating.

    1. Low water levels – Water should cove the whole base and be approx 1/3 – 1/2 up the side of the salt pot lid

    2. Burnt out heater relay on control board – Can normally be seen if the PCB is inspected closely . The board sits behind the select buttons.

    3. Open circuit heater . This can be accessed by removing the RHS panel and checking the continuity of the heater . Its on the RHS of the RHS if that makes sense.

    Power off if investigating

    Thanks nomadpaul!!!

Took the control pcb off as you suggested, there was a bad dry joint on the relay for the heater. I’ve cleaned the lead-out pin of the relay and re-soldered that and a few other ‘iffy’ joints. The machine is now on test.

If the relay has got hot because it’s internal contacts have got resistive, I suppose that could cause the dry joint on the pcb. The relay looks a sod to get off the print, as it’s on a double-sided board.

I work as Tv engineer so I’m happy soldering etc, but getting that relay off looks difficult. I’ve seen new pcb assemblies for £107.00 ouch!

I’ll let you know if it works!

Thanks again for your reply, samjmann.

Thanks for your advice, the machine has ran thru 3 cycles all ok.

I checked the temperature of the relay after the machine had just stopped, it didn’t seem any warmer than the rest of the control pcb.

Can put the credit card away now!

    Thanks again, samjmann.

Samjmann, not sure if you’ll get this message but this machine was subject to a recall last year and you’re entitles to a brand new control panel / board fitted FOC by Bosch – just contact customer services with the machine details to do this.
