ParticipantMy Indesit Washing Machine Seriel Number WIXL163 started tripping the RCD in my main fuse box when I set it on programme 1.
I stopped using programme 1 (Cotton – Pre Wash + Main Wash) and continued to use Programme 2 (Cotton Main Wash only) and all other programmes successfully.
About a week later I accidently used Programme 1 and the washing machine worked correctly. I continued to use all programmes for about 2 weeks with no problems at all. Then one day Programme 1 started to trip the RCD again, only this time the fault was affecting all programmes as it doesn’t matter what programme I select the fault occurs.
What happens is the door locks and the machine lights up as if to start the programme and then the RCD trips. The fuse in the plug isn’t affected, it just trips the RCD.
As my laundry room has just been re-wired I knew it couldn’t be a wiring issue. Also my other washing machine and 2 tumble dryers all work with no problems. I suspected the PCB or programmer switch as the problem had started initially on one programme and intermittently, but was told it wouldn’t be either of these. I was also told it might be the brushes which were found to be worn, so I replaced these with no effect.
I am now at a loss. At the time of failure the washing machine was just over 2 years old but in fairness had probably been used more then the average machine.
Can anyone help please?January 31, 2011 at 6:04 pm #343098iadom

Someone with the technical know how needs to check all components and wiring with a suitable megger or multimeter for insulation faults.
The wash heater and the motor would be the first things to check, with the mains plug removed of course. 😉

Change the heating element for around £20. I would imagine this will solve your problem, plus its cheaper than getting someone out with a megger to most prob tell you its the element or the motor. Hope this helps.

A quick search for “parts bingo” on here will show what stupid and potentially expensive advice this is. Test parts before replacing them, or else you are simply throwing money at the machine in the hope it might work.
But hey, if you imagine it may work, why not give it a try…

And if it’s not the Element but the Motor or other component, you will have just wasted money and still need an Engineer with a Megger to find & Cure the problem.
