Well as you should all be aware the survey module is now there and we can do in-depth market research using that straight off the back of UKW. This is a very valuable tool indeed but we have to decide how to weild it over the coming weeks.

I’ll explain as often I bang on about stuff and not explain what I’m thinking on, we have now got the ability to survey our members on almost any subject that we see fit. We can survey the public on appliances and be far more specific than any market research company as well as impartial. We can gauge reaction on a contract or organisation within or outwith the trade, its easy all I do is set up permissions for specific groups and, on that note we can even run focus groups for marketing and/or servicing purposes.

As you can see, it’s a powerful tool that can be used as a weapon or as backup for our case.

    Now here’s the best bit…

We can sell that information! They all want more info from us so let’s give it to them, at a price.

Here’s what I propose and in here first to gauge sentiment before I go out and gob off about it, any “trade” surveys that are done the cash goes back into the members funds or a proportion if there is excessive setup for it goes into UKW Ltd. Essentially, it generates funding back to the guys which is the aim here.

Other ones we come up with or are asked to do on a commercial level that are outside the actual core repair business (ie to the public etc) are considered to be commercial and fair game for UKW Ltd, we pick those ones up.

Its a fine line that and all will be discussed and agreed before we make a firm decision on where the cash and what proportion goes on any given project that we get paid to do. I’ll set ground rules for that at a later date, but it will be a fair and open process to those that need to know about the financial aspect of it.

It’s another way to get revenues that were previously not available to us and add value for members without taking money off them, an idea I never much subscribed to TBH but I can see the need for it. And this sort of stuff can be done with a relative ease but we have to encourage the momentum in it and keep it alive.

Okay, it’s up and running with a small survey about spares suppliers for now on there, details and URL are in the “trade spares” forum.

This can and will allow us to carry out our own market research and retain the information for our purposes. It puts us in a far better and more knowledgable position when dealing with manufacturers etc. despite the other obvious benefits.

So, do the survey that’s there please and let me know what you think. Also we need to take a lead here and think what we want to do with it.

Obviously getting opinion on CORGI is a given after the September meeting as we’ll then have cold hard facts to approach them with and the numbers to back it up. 😉
