ParticipantHi,
My Bosch made Hotpoint won’t fill to the point where it will start heating and washing, I’ve had the top, side and door off and checked the hose at the front (clear), the matrix, floats and switches are pretty clean. I’ve also re-seated all the connectors and examined the PCB which looks ok too.
The only odd thing I did notice was the clear plastic tank/tub at the back just behind the inlet and waste pipes is full of a bright orange bubbly substance, could this be the source of my problem? More to the point what is it???
I know this is supposedly a good machine that should last a fair while so I’m keen to get it going again rather than replace it, any help would be most appreciated.

The orange goo is in the water softening chamber, leave well alone it should be like that, in fact if it is orange then it is in good condition.
Will it not start to do a wash action at all, even on the pre wash programme?
Try this, switch the machine off, hold in buttons 1 & 3 (Normal & Quick wash) then switch on. Release these two buttons ( lights will flash) then press them both again and release. The machine should now go into a test programme. If it encounters an error it should light up one of the lights 2,3 or 4.
This only gives a very basic error code but is a starting point.

Thanks for that, I ran it for about an hour without any baskets or spray arms before I read your post, some small black bits have appeared from somewhere??
I’m running the test now, it’s the first time it’s got hot in while. I’ll report back when it’s finished, been running for about 40 minutes so far.

Well it ran through the test and heated up but when I ran a cycle it played up again.
It gets stuck at a point where there’s no water in it but the wash pump is still whirring away, it’s either draining prematurely or not filling when it should.
Is the water level governed purely by the floats and the micro switches on on the side? The float is clear and free to move so this makes me think one of the switches may be faulty? Or… Is there a solenoid somewhere that keeps the fresh water in the machine? Maybe this isn’t working??
I forgot to mention, it started making a random tick/click sound whilst running but this started over a year ago and it had been working fine up until recently.

FIXED!!
I took the matrix and float system right off and noticed the chamber below the red float was completely blocked, it all appeared to be clear when looking at it on the side of the machine.
I do find it odd that this one area got clogged when the rest of the pipes were virtually spotless??
Anyway, happy now. 😀

Strange that it went right through the test sequence. 😕
It does sound like a blockage in the pressure chamber/float on the side. There is no solenoid to keep the water in and the only time it empties other than normal drain periods is if the base has flooded.
Looking at the large plastic metering tank that covers most of the side of the dishwasher, is there any sign of internal gunge near the top left hand side?

You must have just missed my last post.
Thanks for your help, I did what you just suggested! 😀

I was posting and loking at the service manual and parts diagrams at the same time. 🙂
Glad to hear you sorted it.
The reason for all of that gunge is due to not rinsing the plates well before loading.
We have a saying…”remember, it is a dishwasher, it is not a waste disposal unit”.
