ParticipantI got stuck with repairing the machine…
Initially the drum bearings failed and I changed the rear half tub along with new spider. The job itself is uneventful, so nothing to report about that.
However when I came to switch the machine on and hoped for the best. It filled up ok, then went into a full spin, it was not spinning just the turning of the drum was at fast pace as if the motor was at full rev.
The machine went into emergency drain out mode then flashes on number 3 light (Rinse Hold button). According to the UK whitegood fault code book it says motor jammed/tacho.
I checked the motor, looks alright to me, the insulation is fine so does the carbon brushes. It’s two years old the machine.
Don’t know if it is worth mentioning that the owner refitted the belt when it slipped off but did not realise that the bearings failed as the drum was stiff to turn. I do not know if this caused damage to the motor.
So I am left scratching my head…thinking whether the motor is faulty or the spin control board is faulty.
What do you think guys?

A very careful check of the motor wiring plug would be my first port of call, give all of the wires a gentle tug to see if they have broken inside the insulation. Then check all of the motor plug connections to the PCB.

Assuming that all the wirings are ok, what else should I look for?

Think jim is right but check all the loom they can rub through by the front weight etc. Failing that check the tacho it self.

WF wiring does not run near the front weight, only a small cable to the top PCB, clipped to the side of cabinet on these. 😉

The wiring on the machine are in tip top condition. No signs of wear or loose connection.
I have a hunch that it could have be the tacho on the motor. I looked up on Masterpart and Connect for spares for tacho, looks like that it is not repairable.
My client is not keen to spend more money on it. The motor would have costed around £90, I even offered to try it out and return the motor back at no extra cost. Time is the essence here and there is a limit on how long a family can live without a washing machine so as a result the job was terminated. Still I was offered the machine to take home to repair as much I would have liked to but declined the offer.
Still I can’t fix all machines otherwise I would have been loaded!!
