I have a Bossh SMS 4452 GB dishwasher that stalls intermittently, sometimes just before the detergent flap should open. I have checked most things (bunged up hoses, micoswitch on matrix etc, but cannot find a specific fault. Help!!

    Paul_G,

It sounds as though it is the water Inlet/Safety Valve that is the problem? Possibly the ‘water block’ on it has cut in due to an overfill situation??

The likely cause of this is a blockage in the ‘water metering tank to sump hose’. Take it off at the metering tank end and blow the blockage clear 😉 ( 😆 No sucking now or you’ll be sorry 😆 )

Disconnect from the mains electricity before any repairs though!

    Hi Martin,

Many thanks for your suggestion – you were spot on!

I had checked the sump end of the hose, but not the other end. I now see why not to suck!!!

    Thanks again,

    Paul G.

That’s very interesting. My own Bosch SMS3042 also stops at various points in the cycle and I assumed the rotary timer was worn out (it’s rather old).
Could it be the same cause? If so, where do I find this sump-end hose thingy?
    Great site BTW!

Sorry, I should have given the full numbers:
    E-NR SMS 3042GB/08
    FD7210111691
    0730102989
    S5N27B

After reading other posts, it does sound like this inlet may be blocked.
But I’m confused – why does a water inlet get blocked (surely it’s the outlet that gets gooed up by old fats etc….)

As this ancient machine came with the house, I don’t have a manual so I’ve no idea where to locate the relevant panel to remove. Advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks for setting up such a helpful site and letting us civilians use your knowledge.

    Joey,

Please take note my previous postings, that will indeed cure your problem too. If you are not accustomed to “DIY” then get a local engineer to fix it for you. (Check our “Directories” for local service!)

Your machine is not in any way, shape or form “rather old”…on the contrary, it’s got many years left to go 😉

    Re: Bosch Dishwasher

    Thanks, Martin, that’s really encouraging.

I’ll start by removing the water supply pressure, as you say.

If that fails, I’ll aim to clean out the pipe. But please, although I’ve read all the posts I can find, I’m unsure exactly how to access it. Do I get in through the sump or a side panel? Or do you just mean the hose that goes to the external drain?

Just a thought, can I check that the drain-out is working by tipping a couple of pints of water in the machine with the door open and seeing what happens?

Thanks again for your help. Martin, check your PM.
