    Hi there,

    We have had our LG TD-C70045E Tumble Dryer for about 3 years when we noticed a faint whiff of burning. We tracked it down to the dryer and noted that it had shorted the house fuses. We orederd another Main Module as it was apparent it had fried it.

    The images below are of the 2nd module. The first one was similar, although it was the ‘chip’ (switch) on the right.

    I’m after trying to narrow down what could be the cause… Does anyone know what this BCR8PM chip/switch is for?

    We have an inkling that it is to do with the door switch somehow, as we get a not-so-reassuring ‘pop’ and fuse box short when we close it. We have tried removing the light-bulb and the door will close and we have no issue…except the dryer won’t let us run a drying program without a bulb (or so it seems).

    Hi: The BCR 8PM is an 8 amp 400/600 volt control Triac, which is quite a hefty device so you must have a fair s/c to blow it like that. To find out what it controls follow the PCB print to it’s connector & then follow the wiring from there to the component, a Multimeter resistance check should prove the point. Rather than paying the cost of another new PCB the 2 you have can probably be repaired.

    Just had a look…

    The back of the circuit board is not viewable. It’s set in some resin/jelly compound and mounted in a plastic surround. If I cut it from the gel, what do you think the chances are of a reseal?

    You should be able to remove the plastic frame from around it, the resin may be a problem. The way I usually do it in the workshop is to use a Freezer spray to make it brittle & then slowly & carefully break it away bit by bit.
    If you have a Multimeter, use it on the ohms range & test from each pin of the Triac to the pins of the connectors until you find the correct pin.
    With that level of short you should be able to find the faulty part relatively easily just by useing resistance checks.

    Here’s the wiring diagram



    I followed your advice and flipped the board and tracked the wiring connector.




    I tracked it to this connector and followed the wires back to the motor…



    …and here’s the insides of the motor… 😳

    I would get a new motor, but the missus insist we are not spending a penny more on it. Look out for it for spares/repairs on ebay… 😥

    Excellent nicely found mate, you could say that motor has definately blown in style 🙂
    1 suggestion: make sure there are no other shorts before re-fitting a new or repaired PCB.
