Hi – I have an Indesit WIL 143S Washer Its six years old so its done ok judging by the bad comments about Indesit! When i switch it on, The cycle starts but a few seconds in, the door lock light flashes quickly and the Easy Iron and Extra Rinse Light flash slower (reading from the left, the 3rd and 4th light) Also, the drum fills up with water and the emptying pump starts also. On a good day (rare) it behaves and we rush some washing through it but usually it just flashes away. Unplugging and replugging just results in the same action.

I have had the programmer board out to check for bad solder joints etc but i haven’t checked the thermostat yet as was suggested in another post. No joy so far.

Would a new board do the job:

Is that a decent price? I take it a straight swap or is any programming required?

    Thanks all and any 🙂

I should say as a new unit from Indesit would set you back over £100 plus it would have to be ‘programmed to suit your model’.

As to whether that would sort it? Maybe? Maybe not? Could be a thermistor problem too? Plus filling and draining at the same time doesn’t sound that brilliant TBH. 🙁

I’m thinking there’s gonna be some mileage in this thread for sure. 😛

You’re not Chatty Man by any chance, I love your show? 😉

Thanks for the replies by the way – Chatty Man? never heard of the guy ❓

A thermistor problem is something different to the temp sensor problem right?

From my days as a kid disassembling old TV’s, a thermistor is a safety cutout device often found on PCBs near high voltage PSU components – they blow when things get hot so fires dont start. Am i on the right path? If the thermistors you refer to are those capacitor looking things near the bigger resistors/240v electrolytic cap and inductor, replacing the board would solve that too?

    Or am I way off?

I cant seem to abandon the idea of a fix. Its a possible £50 to fix my existing machine or over £150 for a cheapy new one as I’m a bid skint at the moment (or just a waste of £50 and then ANOTHER £150+?) Is there any hope?

Thanks for any more replies! 😀 !

Way, way off! A thermistor is an electronic thermostat that it this instance is fitted adjacent the heating element. Poor contact between that and the board are a caution. The device itself or the PCB all collude to give associated problems. Likewise the water level control sensor (a.k.a. Pressure Switch)…a minefield of potential problems that are all controlled by that PCB.

Never say never! Fight on! 😀

    – I guess 1980’s TVs are a bit different! Ok, My plan of action is as follows:

    – Find the water level sensor thingy and test its switching ability as well as the wiring loom to it and the controller PCB with continuity multimeter.

    – So a thermistor in this case IS what i would call the thermostat – it tells the CPU when the water in the drum has reached the correct temperature – test continuity from this to the controller board.

    – If all checks ok, then replace the controller board and I have a new Washing machine?!!
    😆

    Thanks again!

    Alan.
