Hmm thought we did’nt give out service info to the Public?
Wonder where he got the idea of Selenium Rectifiers in Washing Machines? Far as I know they stopped useing Selenium rectifers in anything over 40 years ago as it was just too dangerous.February 18, 2011 at 4:10 pm #345055iadom

That is hardly ‘service’ information, hes not trying to fix it just trying to find out if/why it set on fire, or indeed if it was the cause of a more serious fire.
We all know the reason is due to the outstanding quality of these machines, it doesn’t do any harm to let people like him know either. 😉
Re the Indesit dishwasher, I did not post anything in the public forums that could be considered ‘technical’ information. I contacted him directly.
I wouldn’t buy such carp in the first place but if an appliance caused my house to burn down I would want to know before engaging the lawyers. 🙂

0020400542X Part number for the Selenium Rectifier on Haier washing machines. Don’t forget, they are made in China and they still use a lot of stuff that the West stopped using long ago. One of the sales guys from China that was over last year was trying to plug brand new chest freezers with R12 😉

Hi Jim: If as he’s stated he is a Fire Investigator, I would’nt have thought he would have problems getting hold of the Manuals or information. I know Police Forensic departments don’t & I have to be honest the fact that he asked about something that was so out of date makes me wary.

If that’s the case then I owe the guy an appology, & everyone a warning.
When Selenium get’s overheated it gives off Selenium Dioxide & you don’t want to be around when it does, apart from a serious stench of rotting Garlic it causes Severe irritation to the Eyes, Skin & Respiratory tract & when breathed in can cause Severe burns to the Mucous membranes.
There were still Selenium stacks in use when I started in the Electronics trade & I only got caught by a burning stack once, believe me that was enough. I was off work for days after it.Jim you have my appologies, as far as I knew we stopped useing it in this country due to the above & I never for 1 minute thought it would be allowed to be used in any appliance, imported or not.

If they catch fire, just don’t Breathe 🙂 you may crash the car but hey at least you won’t get poisoned 😆
Nice machine the Haier, if it does’nt burn your house down it will poison you instead if it catches fire 8) -
