ParticipantI posted a question about problems with our dishwasher a couple of days ago. This thread supercedes that one, which was (I apologise) inaccurate (based on my wife’s report – don’t tell her I said that!!).
Our Siemens SF 64A630GB/08 (FD8209) dishwasher is playing silly games. Two symptoms:
1. The water isn’t heating (it’s a cold-feed only machine).
2. It starts its cycle with a pre-wash rinse, empties and then refills for the main wash cycle. It then just runs and runs and runs and….. eventually I end up cancelling the programme with a reset.
I’ve put my ohm-meter across the terminals of the water heater (it doesn’t have a simple element, it’s an instantaneous water heater unit – this one: http://www.espares.co.uk/part/dishwashe … eous-.html). I get open circuit. Obviously this suggests that the heating element inside the heater unit has failed.
But I’m puzzled at the non-stop washing. Does anyone know whether this is normal – if the water doesn’t heat up does the machine just keep running indefinitely, waiting for hot water?
Any ideas and opinions will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi: Your machine is probably waiting for a Signal from the temperature sensor to tell it that the water is up to temperature & to move the programme on, with an open circuit element it can’t get the signal as there’s no heat.

Thanks very much, Specialist01269. I wondered if that might be the case.
Tomorrow I shall try adding some hot water to the machine myself, just as the main wash fill is starting. If run it on the coolest programme that might just fool it enough for it demonstrate that its programmer is, in fact, working when it gets the correct signal.

Hi: That may work but it’s doubtful, don’t condemn the programmer just because this does’nt work.

Thanks again, Specialist01269. Siemens agree with you!
I gave them a call, just to double-check that they feel the fault is likely to be the heater rather than the programmer, and they concurred.
Now all I have to do is find £100 for a new water heater! 😥
Thank you very much for your help and advice. Much appreciated.

my machine is doing a similar thing, although it initially worked on the pre rinse mode and then stuck overnight with 23mins remaining on rapid wash, now it won’t even run on any cycle including the pre rinse.
Is this due to the water heater or something else?
thanks

Could be due to a number of different reasons including a faulty heater. So “something else” may well be the case.
Get it checked out by a local engineer, you can probably find one by clicking HERE 😀
