ParticipantBeen out to a OAP customer today with a faulty 4 ring induction hob. Went to isolate it before working on it and found this…..on a 7.4Kw rated appliance !!!

The hole for the hob , 18 months old , was around an inch too wide and a really uneven cut. There were huge blobs of a red putty-like substance that was holding the appliance in place and stop it sliding side to side and the whole unit had been siliconed down ( strictly a no no from the installation instructions !! )
I fixed the hob but explained to the customer that they couldn’t use it until it had the correct electrical re-installation carried out.
They said the fitters had installed it whilst they’d been away and on their return they mentioned to them all the wires from the hob mains lead were hanging out the plug , so they returned and fitted the junction box inline to tidy up the wires !!!!!
I was a bit shocked and advised them to contact trading standards as how many other installations have they put in like this !!

Not only that.. the gas pipe looks as if it has been kinked when being fitted.

Ha, ha,ha,ha, 😆 😆 😆 😆 Installers dont you LOVE THEM (not), machine snug under unit, floor up to machine, customer has a go because you cant remove said machine, you have seen it as I have. Installers, supplier/installer, floor layer companies, electricians, plumbers, the vast majority cant seem to grasp the thought of the “IF” or ” THE SHOULD IT” fail it needs to come out syndrome.
Went to a guy the other day, I just could not get to the rear left leg to raise it so machine could be brought over a tiled up to the machine sinario. As the machine was under insurance, and I am agent for a particular company, I rang them to ask what they wanted me to do, I was informed it is down to the customer make sure the appliance can easily be removed. I put the customer on to the guy, and the customer went ballistic at him saying it would cost him a fortune bla bla, and he wanted a refund of his money! I put the machine back, he said he would think about it. 😕 😕 😕
