Hoping someone can help! My washing machine started smoking for a very brief period then tripped the ELCB. I checked the brushes and they were very low – one was showing traces of copper at the end. Replaced brushes then started machine and it tripped ELCB again as soon as drain cycle was selected. I’ve taken motor apart and cleaned out all the loose carbon but thought I would check motor resistances before putting the unit back in and found that there was only 2KOhm between commutator and casing earth. Seemed a bit on the low side so I took out the rotor again and found this resistance between commutator and rotor shaft. Can anyone tell me if the rotor is finished? If so, can a rotor be bought seperately?

You need to give us the model number or Enr number, however you cannot get a rotor and a new motor is very expensive. 😉

Re: Bosch Classix 1200 Motor Problem

Hi iadom and thanks for the reply. It is a WFO2467GB. I’ve done a search on commutator on this site and think I have some sort of rotor earth fault. Appears resistance should be >100k which makes sense as <8K will trip the 30mA breaker. Can't believe I need a new machine -it is in pristine condition- but from the other threads looks like £200 is the norm for a motor which is just not worth it. Is there a weak point in the rotor wiring which causes the low resistance?

if your fitting it yourself £200 is a better spent on a motor than some tat, as a new equivalent spec bosch wae24366 is circa £380-420 for example.

I agree with Ghand1,spending £200 on a replacement motor might seem expensive.
When you look at the inexpensive rubbish that has swarmed on to the market it sometimes seems better to go for a new machine.
BUT they are rubbish and will not give you anywhere near the service of a Bosch.

Re: Bosch Classix 1200 Motor Problem

Just an update – took your advice and decided to keep the washing machine a bit longer but went for a reconditioned motor from Ebay which cost £40 + £10 delivery. The motor looked like new and machine is now up and running again. Hopefully it will give me a few more years! 😀
