ParticipantWe inherited a Hotpoint Aquarius DWF30 when we moved in about a year ago and have had nothing but trouble free use out of it, that is until about a week ago when it was set to run medium cycle, everything started of ok but my wife came back into the kitchen and noticed it had stopped, when she opened the door it was obvious that it hadn’t performed the full cycle and that there was water still in the bottom. So we removed the water and reset the machine and tried it again, again it all started off ok, the water started to fill and then it just cut out again. I tried it a few more times and it did the same thing each time, listening carefully im sure i could hear a switch tripping when it cut out. So i went on the internet to see what was suggested, so far i have cleaned out the water matrix (there was gunge in the top left hand corner), checked the outlet pipe (all was clear), checked the impeller on the sump and i have also cleaned the valve unit on the bottom right hand side, all of which haven’t sorted out the problem. From what i can see it all looks in pretty good shape and not particularly gunged up.
Im all out of ideas now and would really appreciate any pointers you may have.
I look forward to your replies
Lee

When the machine stops are any of the program LED’s flashing? Count left to right 1 to 4 (ignore the “end LED”).

This is a Bosch based machine, not the later Indesit made garbage so no flashing lights Unclebob. 😉
How did you manage to clean the gunge in the top left hand corner of the fill matrix?
Sounds more like a main circulation pump problem TBH.

Thats right, there were no flashing lights, it just stayed on the cycle light after it cut out.
The cleaning of the matrix was abit tricky, i started off just trying to shake it with water in but that didnt work, so then diluted some caustic soda, poured it in and left it for about 30 mins, that shifted some of it but i then went for it big style, now i know this isnt recommended but i thought what the hell i cant make it any worse so i poured some caustic down into the gunged area and followed it with some boiling water…….that certainly did the trick and after a couple of attempts it was as clear as a bell. 😀

TBH blockages in that area often result in the programme sticking but they don’t stop the wash action.
You could set it to a programme and then check the fill level when it cuts out. Does it appear to have enough water in it?
When it cuts out can you hear any faint buzzing sounds?

when it cuts out the water level is level with the metal removable cover in the bottom where the filter is housed.
I dont recall any faint buzzing but i will check again when i get home later.
Thanks for your help

Hmm, it should be just a little higher than that but not much. You could try pouring some more water into the machine to see if the main motor kicks in.

What do you reckon Jim? Are you thinking what I’m ‘a thinkin’?
Yep…main circulating motor seized. I’ll give you odds of 5/2 this is another stryder’like thread. 😉

sounds expensive :rolls:
I have managed to track down off the net the test routine for it and it doesnt even appear to want to run that. I hold down s2 and s4 and turn on the machine and they both flash which is apparently correct but when i press the 2 again which is supposed to start the test they just keep flashing and i hear what sounds like a click come from inside.
Any ideas?March 17, 2011 at 7:35 pm #347181iadom

If the click appears to be low down towards the front right hand side then it does sound like the main circulation pump has siezed.
Not a cheap fix and not a simple DIY job either. 😥

There is little point in ‘test routines’ in order to get to the bottom of this problem. If I were you I’d rather attempt to source the exact location of that ‘click’. Do take care though, 240 volts is a killer and messing around with the panels removed is best avoided.
Unplug before going in! :zap:

I think im going to scrap it to be honest, its a good 5 years old and it would be foolish chucking money at it when it could be put towards a nice new shiny one 8)
So thanks to all of you for your help and now the search for a new one begins………any recommendations? 😆

That’s a shame, they are made by Bosch and generally very good. I have loads in my patch purring away thanks to my TLC. 8)
Recommendations? Not HOTPOINT, total junk these days. Stick with mid-range BOSCH (about £350 ‘ish).
Or, reconsider and get in a local guy to sort it for you. 💡
