ParticipantGot one of these (FD 8705), doing the overfill + pulsing pump / drain thing + circulation pmp not kick in + tap light on. Cleaned out the red float & transfer tube, which were a little bit gunked, but no better.
Surely the impellor jug? Did not have a new one with me as I had been caught out of stock.
Brought old one away for checking with my test lamp and it seems to work perfectly except that when blown through at high speed the bearing complains. Don’t they even do that when new though?
Suppose it could be connection but that’s unlikely since a) it never moves and b) I pulled it off and refitted it after giving it a squeeze.
Some will say it must be module but how would this very low voltage part of the module get damaged?
Going to order jug and try that first.
Any other suggestions?

Get an impellor jug, as you know they are prone to failure. Iv’e had one only last a week. Nip the connecting plug up a bit as well

New impellor jug did the trick.
I blew through it before fitting and compared it side by side in that respect with the old one. It was definitely quieter, though still not that happy working dry. So it looks to me that the bearing in these things could affect their performance though I’m not sure how, since the water is still going to turn it – I can’t see that it could be jamming totally. Next time I will try and remember to try knocking down the water flow rate and see if that makes a difference as in this case pressure was very high.
Hope this doesn’t mean the end of just fitting a new reed switch.

I think the reed switch “oxidises”, how I don’t know as the are hermetically sealed more likely it’s a cheap and nasty Chinese item

Yes, I know but the old one tested fine on my 4.5v test lamp, the lamp flickering fast and consistently when I blew into it, though the struggle to get the damn’ thing out could have righted it I suppose.
It’s not too surprising that the switches wear out, given the very high frequency that the terminals have to open and close = millions of cycles per lifetime. (Well, theoretically.) And how good a seal can you get between glass and metal?
