    Evening gents,

Slim little SMEG dishwasher here is playing up. All seems functional bar the circulation pump (fill, drain, tablet and heater OK). Burnt electrical smell. When I put the machine on it’s back to take off the base I noticed the circulation pump motor capacitor was badly blown – electrolyte blown out the side like a 1″ piece of chewing gum – actually hanging out the vent grill at the back.

I fetched the pump module out (1 screw, and two b*tch clips) and disconnected the capacitor. Is badly labeled, as the blown hole is right on the label. Looks like 6uF “RP-3 Italfarad 6040 SH PO” on two spade connectors, secured on an M6 thread. Should be easy to replace, I cant see an exact replacement on here. There’s a 6uF cap but it has two extra connectors…

Can anyone confirm the pump motor coil resistance below against the manuals – would like to know I just need the capacitor and not the motor replacement too!

Motor on 3 terminals with capacitor out of circuit:
    blue-red 101 ohm
    red-white 55 ohm
    white-blue 46 ohm

Does that sound about right? Thanks for any guidance,

    Best wishes,
    Chris

I read about this motor type, looks like 50, 50 and 100 ohms is about right for permanent-split capacitor motor:

I can’t find the part on here (ukwg) but espairs seems to have it here:

    Looks improved as now a metal case – £21 + £3.95 pnp :-/
    Will give it a go!

    Ouch!

    £21 for a cap!

Here’s an equivalent one for less than half that price, here

    Same thing, only different.

Re: Smeg type 12140 DWI 45

Thanks, I put the capacitor in and the washer pump is back up and running, great sound to hear 🙂 The rinse program now runs to completion. Unfortunately all is not well, and the main programs now stop with an E3 fault, ‘cannot heat’ 🙁 indicated by ooxxo on the LEDs (o on, x off). Looks like more troubleshooting!

What can be tested? I’ll check the element resistance, if that is good I’ll try and eyeball the PCB to see if the drivers look OK.

Re: Smeg type 12140 DWI 45

    Hi folks

I’d be grateful for any ideas with this…..

Smeg STX1 dishwasher, shows E3 error message and doesn’t heat the water.

Water heater checked and R =s @40 ohms which seems about right.

Temperature probe in the door checked and reads open circuit.

I noticed that a terminal connector had come away from the main PCB, so soldered it back on. But still no heat to the water.

I’ve looked very hard for a thermostat thinking that could the next possible culprit, but the temperature probe is connected to the main PCB, So am I right to think there maybe isn’t a thermostat?

Should the temperature probe read open circuit?

Any ideas what to investigate next?

    Many thanks
    Al
