Hi,
I have been to this machine as it intermittently blows the small 1.25a fuse. Initially it from the description it blew when the dorr was closed, so I have replaced all the switches and checked for alignment and all seemed ok. It now seems to blow the fuse every 7-10 days, but it now comes to light that the fuse seems to go during the night. They turn it off at the wall socket, then when they turn it on the unit is dead. Does this seem to point to the electrics?.

Is it when they switch it on that the fuse is blowing or is the fuse blown before the unit is switched back on?

It would appear that when they switch it on at the socket and go to use it, the unit is dead. The trouble is it only seems to happen every 7-10 days.

Hi Swerv: Did you replace the fuse with a normal quick blow fuse or an Anti-surge fuse? have had this sort of thing before when an Engineer accidentally replaced an Anti-surge with a quick blow. After a few days of turning on/off the fuse will just pop.

Thanks for the replies. I have checked this and have replaced the fuse with a time delay fuse.

Going back tomorrow?? has it popped again? Forgot to ask is it a glass fuse or ceramic? & if glass is it blackened when it blows or just opening the fusewire?

I last went to it last thursday, got a call this morning saying it was dead again.
It is a ceramic fuse.

Can you break it open when you get to it & see if it’s vaporised or just opened? Sorry if i’m teaching granny to suck eggs. It’s not by any chance connected via an extension lead? had 1 a while back kept blowing the internal fuse intermittently & the only thing I came up with was the extension lead had loose pins, since it’s been plugged in direct they’ve never had the problem again.

I know what you mean about intermittent faults, I seem to have had my fair share just lately. It used to be plugged into an ext lead, but I was a bit wary of that. They have done away with the ext lead, but the m/wave is now plugged into the socket that the ext lead was plugged in to.

Hi Merv: Sorry I took so long to reply, as you said originally it could be due to duff pins on the socket. Would’nt be the first time a customers Electrics 😕 an Engineer & caused them to pull their hair out with an intermittent fault 😆

Hi Andy,
I went back today, the lady ho does most of the cooking was there this time. She has said that they always leave it switched on at the wall. It always seems to fail the next morning when they first go to use it. They open the door, put the food in, close the door, and then it goes off when they start to program it. Sure enough the fuse had failed again, I opened it up and it has just opened the fuse wire.
The only other thing I can think of changing is the switch carriage.

Hi Merv: Going on your description I honestly don’t think changing the switch carrier is going to cure your problem, as you said it’s not blowing the fuse it’s just dying as if it’s being run at capacity & gives up the ghost. 1st thing i’d do would be to put an Ammeter across the fuse carrier, turn the machine on/off a few times & programme it etc to see what current is being drawn.
