checked this dryer out was not working. whirlpool awz560 the start switch is it double pole. iam getting contuinty across the 2 front terminals. where the white connectors go.
but nothing across the back where the green connection go when the sw is pressed.
how does the switch come out from the front panell and their is a black clide on the bottom.thanks 🙂 fasetester

Don’t think those start switches are a common fault.
Anyway, folks will want to know which one it is.

Think the switch is held to the front panel by plastic lugs/flexible bits. Should be visible once knob is pulled off.
Slip a long socket over the spindle to push them in.

Scrub that. I think you must mean the first in that list or thereabouts. Click on Connect’s picture to enlarge it and it becomes apparent there’s a complicated instruction sheet with the part.

where is the picture mike. what do you mean by complicated instructions. some come with switch unit and other come with purple and brown wires. if wiring is ok why would you have to change wiring.
my neice said she had to keep pressing the start button. then it stopped working. when you press the switch should you not have contuinty across both sets of terminals. their is no circuit across the back ones.how do i remove the sw
and do i need that serial no becide the dryer mod no to get the right switch. thanks fase.

I used Connect’s mediator system to find out what you are talking about. It gave the list of models shown above. I tried the middle one first but that didn’t show a start switch, so I tried the top one which did. I therefore assume that different serial numbers have different parts fitted. If you’ve got an account at Connect, log in and look at this page and you will see a picture of the switch I looked at. If that is the one you are dealing with, click on the picture and you will have a new window opens showing two pictures, one of which shows the wiring sheet.

Because original part has been replaced by a different one requiring a modification.

Possibly,I don’t know for sure, but usually these big WHP American dryers have a circuit diagram tucked into them somewhere around the timer area, IIRC.

If it has a knob, try pulling the knob off. Then you should be able to see what’s holding it to the panel. I don’t know this particular model you are working on so there may be some hidden way of getting the knob off, perhaps a pop-off cap like on old Zanussi washers? Or a grub screw in the side?

thanks mike i dont have account with connect.is their any way you could send me the detials. and it is not american dryer. i have the front off its the sw cliped into the front frame of the dryer.

The Switch assembly comes as a kit (481227818003) with the link wires AND conversion instructions. Fitting is pretty straightforward once the lid is removed and fascia panel also. 😀

thanks martin you dont have excess to the the conversion instructions and should i get conunity on the terminals on the back of the start switch.
when the switch is pressed is that the only switch or is their another one in the front at the top of the door thanks fasetester

The switch will come with an instruction sheet.
If this start switch, of which you write, is of the non-latching type (i.e. you push it and it doesn’t stay in) then it probably operates a relay. The problem could be with the relay.

It’s not a Start Button Mike, just an On/Off Button and the usual fault is that the button doesn’t stay in and latch. There’s no Relay on this model. Just an on/off switch and door microswitch….simples…:wink:

thanks mike for the help go it sorted as martin said. the are just 2 micro switches might help some one else.the one at the back is the micro sw that is activated when the door is closed.
and the micro sw at the front is activated when the start reset set switch is pushed and is held in by a u shaped clip that enters a groove which a black slide on the side of the main switch body which is activated when the door is closed.and deactivated when the door is opened. and relases the sw to stop the dryer.if anyone does not understand.
get back to me and i will help if i can it is simple when you take it apart and see how it works. 🙂 fasetester
