ModeratorI have to admit to being somewhat suspicious to the proposed CDSL Engineer Database, Exactly who is this aimed at and for whose benifit.
You are allowed to contribute towards the advertisement cost’s but you are not allowed to see the whole data base, if the applicant requests that details be witheld from your firm.
But the same details could be readily accessable to one of your local competitors on a fishing exercise of your staff.
God help you, if you were to ever piss CDSL off.If both HOTPERLONI and HOOVER failed to get the results in the recruitment they required for national coverage, then what makes CDSL think that they will be able to succeed.
With the best will in the world most of the independant trade cannot compete on waqes against the likes of the big manufacturers or B.G. So ask yourselves which engineers are most likely to apply for inclusion on this proposed database.
Perhaps I’m just being paranoid, but I have an uneasy feeling about this little project, I really do.

What it’s about Dave is that CDSL are instigating a national advertising campaign for engineers with the results fed back to the people that take part in the exercise, i.e. the agents that contribute.
I have to say that I do agree with some of Del’s points and I’ve already made it quite clear that, in the interest of privacy, the results should go to an independent third party for distribution.

This is suppose to be a simple way of national advertising. The results from the advert, if any, in my area would come to me. I will not receive the info about an applicant off area, that seems fine to me. However I would like to know what they do with an applicant who applies where the CDSL agent declines to join the cost of the advert?
I may have to ask this one at the UKW meeting.

KeymasterIt was a initial suggestion from myself Mark and run past Kevin. A few years ago a number of us clubbed together and placed an advert in a national paper. We thought we would try something different and we got a reasonable response at a fraction of the cost it would normally cost.
This case was a suggestion that once again we clubbed together in the interest of all. As we were all seeing CDSL the idea was mooted.
Opinions would be welcome on friday if people are interested it can be done through CDSL , through UKW or on our own, its upto us all

If there was time, this would be better off as part of Saturday’s agenda IMO if anything of this kind was to be done via UKW, sadly there won’t be time.
We can of course discuss it here though 😀

In all honesty, although UKW or even DASA may be the vehicles to do this sort of thing, frankly I don’t have the time and neither does Kevin or you Dave. I also doubt that DASA has the manpower to spare and, if it were done through either there would have to be a cost attached to providing that service, sorry but it really is getting silly now and none of us can afford the time for free.
My problem is that UKW has become a full time job and ny business is suffering because of it, primarily in administration as, basically, I’m not doing my job properly. I cannot allow that to continue indefinitely and to devote more time to doing stuff for free like this would be stupid, rumour has it I’m not the brightest student, but I’m not the dumbest either.
