ParticipantHi,
My Indesit D41 is not draining – only if I lay the pipe at floor level will the water drain away.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Rob.

Drain pump or drain pump blocked would be the first things to check.

Thanks kwatt.
I removed the side panel and traced the waste pipe into the machine:

Where do I check for a blockage – should I remove the clip around the waste pipe and remove the pipe? I tried this but could not get it to unlock?
Thanks again,
Rob.

You have to remove the pump body, there is a little screw that you can just see the point of, about an inch from the pressure switch in your picture. Remove this and twist the pump off. Take care not to lose the black rubber ‘O’ ring.
You will need to remove the grey plastic hose and the two wiring connections first.April 5, 2011 at 11:07 am #348476rob_75

I had to remove the back of the pump (3 x screws) in order to get access to the clip. I cannot see or feel any blockages:

I am guessing thereofore that the problem is the pump itself – can this be tested out of the machine?
Many thanks,
Rob.

I put a live and neutral across the terminals and the pump span so looks like that is not the problem.

Sorry to say that your methods are extremely dangerous and should not be undertaken under any circumstances. :rolls:
Try putting it back together, it only takes the tiniest object to stop these pumps, a small piece of glass, chip of china, lump of sweetcorn. The obstruction may have fallen out or been disturbed as you removed the pump.
You may find it now works.
PS. You have checked the under sink plumbing for blockages haven’t you?
PPS. you should remove the base plate to access the pump. 😉

Thanks for the replies.
I put it all back together and ran a rinse program and with the waste pipe held at about waist height (excuse the pun!) water was pouring out. So it seems the problem has been resolved although I could not find any obvious blockages or debris which might cause the problem.
Thanks for your help guys!

Problem not quite resolved. I had foam comoing out by the left-hand door hinge this evening. The machine then started making a crackling sound (water in electrical componenets) before the fuse box tripped.
If I switch it now all appears well, the iights on front panel illuminate, water runs into the machine then it just sits there doing nothing?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rob.

Sounds like a classic over foaming leading to a flooded base that does.
If correct them it could have blown any one of a number of things. You’d have to get into the base and see how badly it’s been damaged.

Thnks Kwatt – what is the cause of the overfoaming – too much detergent or something within the machine not functioning properly? There does seem to be a few people complaining of this issue.
I’ve turned the machine onto it’s side, removed the bottom plate to have a poke around inside – nothing ‘looks’ damaged so it is hard to tell where the fault lies. Could it be the main motor? I have a spare machine which I am breaking for spares so I have some parts to swap out (this other machine starts a cycle, sounds like it is taking water it doesn’t, it then makesa strange noise and it looks like someone is trying flick the inlet pipe – so hopefully a different fault!).
Thanks,
Rob.

Too much detergent, wrong detergent, short cycle used with tablets… many reasons.
TBH it could be anything Rob, including the wiring harness in the door. It’s just a case of sitting down with a multimeter and working it out.

Ok it looks like the main motor has blown. I tried swapping out some of the other components but it has made no difference.
Time to consider if it is worth replacing it for around £40!
