KeymasterOkay, so you’ve all seen it by now so here’s a quick summary for those that missed it…
Email goes out to a load of UKW members in the directory.
I go back to them asking if they want further assistance.
Email sent inviting Merloni to the meeting on Friday.
So far, no response to anything other than the regional manager will call you etc. to both Kev and Dave.
Looks as if they’re cherry picking those that are CORGI.
then this conversation in IRC…
[16:43] well, here’s the thing…
[16:43] really, when you think about it, we have them by the balls
[16:44] they can’t get employed engineers, they can’t get franchised, tehy can’t tempt retailers so they’re left with little option really but to come back a-begging to the independents 😉
[16:44] now, teh question is, will the silly muppets realise it?The muppets being the repairers! 😆

KeymasterRe: Merloni
ok, here goes.
I have replied to and received a reply back from Merloni. Like some of you I await an area Manager. No probs…..
However I want to make it very clear to you within this forum that I have absolutely no intention of working for anyone for less than £37.00 a call.
I can tell you that RF has been chatting to these people and they dont want to pay the price….. I know they have approached another network(who pay £33.00 to their agents) and yet they still approach us privately. That means Merloni have been quoted at least £37.50 plus admin fee and £33.00 plus admin fee from two companies. Now if you consider those figures for a mo, you can conclude you may easily sell yourself short if you dont raise the anti and your expectations. Not that you have to pay any attention to me but………these opportunities come along infrequently and we should grab every chance to raise the payment per job. Each time we win one we set a precedent for others to follow, its your wallet…think about it?
oh, dont expect to much insurance work from this liason…a little bird I know has it sown up.kevin

ParticipantI applied Kevin but as yet not heard a dickibird. As I have said in public it costs us 33.00 on a bad month to put a body in a house , its got to be 37.00 plus. and thats just electric …..

KeymasterThankfully we’re all starting to sense at last! 😀

KeymasterAnd the best of it is they appear to have managed to get engineers private addresses and are writing to them.
Merloni used to pay £35 for gas calls two years ago
September 7, 2004 at 9:12 pm #116239kwatt
KeymasterAnd that is why I have concerns over CDSL being handed a list of them on a silver plate paid for by you guys! 😕

Yep, I got the same response as Kevin, “An are manager will contact you”.
In the first instance I asked where he got the email address from as I only gave the one he sent it to WP’s I already work for and used it on UKW.
He did respond telling me he got it from the site, which says a lot if Merloni make this work with info they got from us 😉
Yep, the labour, they will be looking at paying me £36-£38 a call for electric and £40-£42 for gas.
All I hope is that those that are out there who will work for next to nothing just to fill a days work see sense.
Dave.

KeymasterRe: Merloni
I don’t want to post this in the open forums, but here’s the rumour based on info gleaned from a source or two…
You will need to buy £6K’s worth of stock.
10 calls a day
Top off, £35 a call
You need to get training and you MUST have a laptop from them.
Nice, not!

A ‘Regional Manager’ (can’t remember his name right now) phoned me this afternoon to set up a meeting with me.
😈 Next Monday (Sept 20th) 😈
He did say though that they are desperate for engineers to work in the Thames Valley area at the moment. ‘Cos 2 have recently ‘retired’ and another has lost his Corgi licence 😕
Roll on next week 😆

As always I hope the following does remain confidential.
Had a meeting with 3 gents from Merloni.
1 x Van stock is indeed £6000.00 , Which can be paid for in 4 instalments.
Number of calls that can be taken depends on your size. But the calls are passed via the laptop (supplied FOC) the day before!!!!( So you need to keep your engineers closed down so you dont overbook). All calls should be cleared down via the laptop, – These calls go back into the merloni system, any second visits may not come back to you.– Payment issue.
Spares are replenished FOC you don’t charge for them. no margin there then.
Even though they have booked the calls for you they wont pay for Not in’s.
I was offered £25.00 a call, the highest of their rates as we cover a large area. Extras £10.00 for gas , £16.00 for a plastic tub , £30.00 for a metal tub, then theres £15.00 a day for going out of area. i.e. if I am asked to just do wakefield for them but then they throw 4 Doncaster jobs in.
As I understood it all completed calls are invoiced automatically at £25.00 on the laptop any other charges have to be raised manually.
Calls are a mix of Guarantee,Insurance and Chargeable.
I declined to accept their offer of work, and they went away to talk to their their money men.
In a nut shell underpayed, overcomplicated and an admin nightmare.
What would you have done !

flipper,
Two years ago I was getting £28 per call plus £37 per call out of area plus £2 per completed call annual bonus.
If you want to spend £6k per van to get a reasonable 1 st call hit rate you wont have much room left on your vans for your other makes.Credit notes are as rare as rocking horse shit. They were changing modules on their machines almost on a monthly basis so be prepaired for some expensive dead stock. The dishwashers leak like a sive so factor in a good few free call back’s.
Your phone lines will be jammed with their customers chasing spares, some spares were taking forever to come and when you get there you find the machine has been exchanged and nobody bothers to tell you.
So you then have the choice of building a huge pile of their stock. or send them back for a credit note that will never come.Del

KeymasterFrankly, it’s a bad deal and I posted the bit in the rumour mill before I read this as I do have one or two other sources, so they’re obviously telling most people the same thing.
What they are talking about paying doesn’t cover the cost of the calls let alone leaving any profit in it and then there’s the hassle factor.
So na, they can put it the same place as Phil’s head. 😉

Exactly the same as you flipper !
I really don’t know what kind of service they expect for the deal they are offering, doubtless that some will take them up on it, good luck to them.
Dave.
