    Folks
    Built-under freezers.
Would anyone like to offer an opinion as to a ‘reasonable’ expectation of service life.

    Re: Freezer service life

There are too many factors that can effect the expected life span of any appliance to give you a definitive answer Jaded.

In your case, a built in fridge:

Build quality of course is important.

Installation can effect this vastly due to poor air circulation among other things.

Use, opening the door constantly makes the unit work harder to maintain temperature.

Positioning, if it’s in direct sunlight, poorly ventilated kitchens, next to a cooker etc, these will all effect it.

Just a few of the main points that can effect the life span of a built in refrigeration unit.

    Re: Freezer service life

It’s a hard one to answer that is Jaded, it’s one of those “how long is a piece of string” questions really.

It would depend very much on the quality of the appliance for a start and then it comes down to repair costs. Obviously when the cost of repair exceeds about 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the replacement cost I’d say it was bordering on not worth it barring any special requirements, such as the size or whether the unit is integrated or not, to consider. However, very soon, there may also be the cost of disposal or recycling to factor into that equation as well.

Generally you will find that appliances are designed with a lifespan in mind and these vary from, not only manufacturer to manufacturer, but also to ranges within a product portfolio such as Bosch/Neff/Siemens and that cuts across all appliances, not just refrigeration product.

So really, there is no definitive answer to the question without being a lot more specific.

    Dave and K
Thanks anyway. I understand the piece of string analogy but I hadn’t thought about the costs to come in the future in relation to scrapping.
You are aware of the thermostat problem I’m having. Well the unit is c7 yrs old and has been juddering on its mountings after switching off, and if Coolfreeze don’t answer their answerphone………..
Senior Management just doesn’t understand the problems we ‘techies’ have with life.
