My machine is displaying error code E3, from reading other posts on this site I am fairly sure that the thermostat has tripped out.

I have removed the necessary panels to expose the other side of the heater and thermostat but cannot see any reset button.

I have disconnected all the connections from the both the heater and thermostat in the hope that this would reset it. It doesn’t, any advice gatefully received.

    Matthew.

If not can anyone tell me where I can get the cheapest replacement part of complete machine. MFI want £60-£80 plus parts plus VAT to have a look!

Most of the guys on this forum are independent service companies – if you have a look in the directory area you should be able to locate one who covers your postcode area. If not ask for further help and Im sure one of the many of us who do MFI work will help you out. If you know anything about electrical work you need to check the continuity through both the thermostat and heater element to confirm there function. If you don’t have any electrical background DO NOT mess with the appliance. Dishwashers do not take prisoners!!

If I remember correctly this is a Smeg appliance. The heating elements do fail and early versions had a manual reset stat, this I think was replaced by an auto resetting one.

If you open the door and look at the element on the left of the cabinett floor…follow it back to a white ceramic disc which secures the top of the thermostat to the element. So you can work out that if you have a reset button it is located directly on the other side of the stat…from underneath the appliance. As Bonz says this is electrical and you should consider your own ability before you act.
Also consider why a reset stat has operated, usually because its over heated because of temp control failure but also (on a smeg) of water shortage. Has this fault been preceeded by E2?

Thanks for your help fellas, it doesn’t have a reset button, thoroughly checked both sides of the heater and thermostat.

The fault wasn’t preceeded by an “E2” either, although when it stopped working it has melted some of the clips that hold the wheels on the lower basket. There was also a tea spoon that was loose on the floor of the washer. The machine is approximately 4 years old.

Am I better to try and find a replacement or get a repairer?

Who stocks Diplomat’s other than MFI?

    You help is appreciated.

    Matthew.
