customer y/day, need an element for a w/p bleugh blah oven, got a part no for you to make it easy, so went out the back, found one, its lost its price label tho, so onto connect and looked it up…
whirlpool fan element (481225998405) comes up as £33 trade, “srp £55”, so i quote £49.99 + fitting as the blokes been in before for odd bits and bobs…
“christ! forget that – no disrespect but thats a bloody rip off! i can get it from amazon for less than £20… id pay a *little* bit more to get the wife off my back today, but not more than double”
ive also now got a worrying feeling mr customer will prolly be telling his mates how much of a “rip off” we are… 👿 any w/p engineers know what whirlpools own price is for the part direct???
anyways just by chance today i was looking up a back order from feb which just so happens to have been on the same invoice as this element and it came into us for £11 trade, so whut-the-heck are whirlpool/connect playing at bumping the price up by 300{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in 2 months ???

cheers ken and stratford, guess the amazon parts are old stock then…? i know where ill be shopping for wp parts for a while 😉
however in the meantime have since found an ele4700 can be bastardized to fit nicely 🙂
Ps ken, id hate to think how much a thermostat is now… some were over 50 quid trade last year, which maketh on a 300{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase, £150… yeowch!

I’ve been doing parts this week while Dave’s off and some of the prices would take your breath away.
To be fair, it honestly often isn’t the distributors lumping up the prices. There’s a bit of that goes on but not as much as is often thought.
There’s better than them whacking up prices. :rolls:
I’m the first to slag them off when they do it but also the first to defend them when they’re not. I like to be fair with my criticisms. 😉
