ParticipantMy Ariston Margherita AV1247C washes without heating the water on any wash programme. As soon as the programme is selected the drum agitates clothes for a short while the water goes into drum, whereas it used to wait until the drum was full of water, heat the water then agitate. It then drains all the water and suds (cold) and continues with adding and draining the water. Spin and rinse are OK. I have tried it on 90 degree prewash and same thing happens. Do I need a new element?
Many thanksPenzance Pirate

The element is easy to test if you have the correct equipment, its not wise to change it without first making sure it is faulty.
Isolate from the mains first of course.
However on that old tub it should not really advance if the heater is faulty, possible the heater control is faulty.
Sadly although the heater switch and control knob are shown on the parts diagram there is no part number given. 😥

Dear Iadom
Many thanks for your reply.
If it transpires that it is not the element but the heater control that you mentioned I assume that the heater control is not on the main control PCB.

I’m pretty sure the Timer itself employs a ‘thermostop’ position for heating purposes on this model. There is no front panel heater control and temperature controlled by the limpet type t/stat above the heater and combined time factor to complete the preset heati/wash phase of the cycle.
Therefore I suspect that the Timer Unit itself is faulty. 🙁

Dear Martin
Many thanks. I have found a timer unit for that machine, quite expensive but not as expensive as a new machine!!
Do you think it may be just the thermostat itself rather than the timer unit?
thanks

I have tried to buy a timer control but have been told that it is an obsolete item.
I understand that these items can be refurbished – does anyone know of a company that would do this for me?
Or if anyone knows of a company that sells second hand parts – I need a kind of appliance breakers yard 🙂
thanks
