My Smeg DF612 dishwasher starts to fill then starts making a loud hum because the main circulation pump is not turning.
I removed the pump to find that the impeller is fairly stiff, but when I removed the impeller housing assembly the actual motor turns freely. After reassembly the unit felt much better so i replaced it and the machine worked fine for the next couple of washes.
But now the same thing has happened again – the impeller has become stiff and stopped turning although the motor is fine. The impeller and its housing seems to be a sealed unit so I can’t get inside it to find out what has happened. Also I haven’t found the impeller / housing assembly listed seperately for my model, even though it is easily removable from the motor.
    Any ideas?

Motor capacitor would be my first thought…
