ParticipantHi, i have one of the mirror fronted american fridge freezers with the cube or crushed ice dispenser on the freezer door (also has a cold water dispenser as well).
it is making ice cubes ok and the cold water dispenser is working fine but the ice dispenser isnt doing anything ?
when you push the thing in to get ice ~ the light comes on, it makes a “brrrr” sound but no ice comes out.
it is as if the motor is stuck ?
any ideas ?
i have tried turning it off for a few minutes and turning it back on again… no luck
it worked fine until we moved it to another part of the kitchen.
Help !! please
thanks DaveMay 18, 2011 at 10:43 am #351550Martin

On the assumptions that there’s plenty of ice-cubes in the tray and that when you press the dispenser you can here the auger turning round, there may just be an ice-cube blockage in the door?

Hi Martin.. plenty of ice cubes, but the “Auger” doesn’t turn at all… i have tried it on both the crushed ice setting and the normal cube one but it doesnt do anything..
like i mentioned earlier, it’s as if the motor is stuck or jammed ?
do you know if there is a way of resetting it so to speak.
thanksMay 18, 2011 at 11:02 am #351552kwatt

Or the auger motor is kaput. If you can’t hear it turning that’s the most likely thing to be broken. However, there is also the flaky electronics to contend with.
There is no reset for them, they either work or they don’t.
I’d need the 12NC number from the rating plate to look up parts for you but, knowing Whirlpool, don’t expect an auger motor to be cheap, the price will probably leave you short of breath. :rolls:

mmmmm went home from work lunchtime and had another fiddle so to speak.. the noise is just coming from the flap when you depress the lever thingy.. i removed the ice bucket (which is still full to the brim with cubes) and again pressed the lever while watching the “cog” and nothing happens 🙁
did try to move it round while pressing but it appears to be stuck solid and did not seem to want to move.
so as you say.. either the motor is kaput or maybe a wire has come off somewhere while it was being moved ??
is there a “how to remove the motor housing assembly” type of instruction booklet anywhere..
did try to phone whirlpool, their response was “we do not have a technical support department, you will have to have an engineer come out”May 18, 2011 at 2:02 pm #351554kwatt

No, there’s never any instructions or service manuals per this article. You mostly. like us, have to work it out for yourself which often means breaking things you didn’t want broken. 😉

Being as your name suggests you may live in Basildon, why not give Appliance Force a ring? 🙂
