ParticipantHi,
I’d appreciate some help please.
I got White-Westinghouse Fridge Freezer. Pretty old. 23 years old.
It does not be cooling enough.
The freezer does not freeze. The fan is working. Cool air coming out. obviously not cold enough.
Fridge is cold but not cold enough.
It seems to come on . Hear a click sound and after about three seconds goes off.
I read some of the notes on the advise section. Not sure whether the compressor has gone or what.
I have not cleaned out the back for sometime ! Would that help.
Thanks

Sounds like the compressor. I’d put money on it.
At the age, not worth doing and, that’s if you can find someone that will do an old R12 unit.

Kwatt,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Just seen it again .
It clicked and then buzzed for 5 seconds and went off.
What’s an R12 ?
If I switch it off for a day and switch it back on. Will that help at all.
Thanks

Click buzz is the compressor cutting out on the relay/klixon, which is should be in that old machine. On thinking about it there’s a real long shot that the relay could be kaput but, given the age, I’d be more inclined to bank on the pot.
R12 is the gas in it, it was banned after someone found a hole in the ozone layer. 😉
Switching it off will probably make no odds.

Hi kwatt,
Thanks for that.
Keep hearing about the ozone layer. Didn’t know the reference to R12 😕
Just wondered how much are the relays and are they easy to fit.
Thanks

Bryan,
Thanks.
How much are the relays for this machine.
Also how much are the compressors.
I am bit far from your area.
I could have a go at changing the relay , if that is easily available.
Thanks

Hi ,
Thank you all for the kind help.
I am in South London.
I have now moved the fridge.
Unclipped the black plastic cap from the small box ( Part No. SE 209-12 PN 2816 0035129 ) next to the compressor.
There are two bits in there. One with a wire coil ( No. 182225/06 )
And a around one inch in diameter plastic cylinder – and 3/4 inch thick ( No. MSP63 AMW – 165 188913 D8c09 KLIXON ) Is this the relay ?
How much are they and where can I get hold of one please.
The compressor is quite warm. Does that mean anything ?
ThanksJM2

Hi,
Checked again.
It clicks and then buzzes for five seconds every 50 seconds or so.
Also checked the freezer section. Fan is going. and the back panel is fairly cold to touch.
Thanks

The coil bit is the relay, the other bit is in fact a klixon.
Are there any visible burn marks on either? Not conclusive but, often when they go… they go.

Hi Kwatt,
Thanks for clarifying that.
I’ve had a look at them.
The coil bit – the relay – looks clean and fine.
And the klixon is all plastic. No sign of any burns. The wires seem ok too.
Thanks

Hi,
I have now managed to pull out the relay. Shaken it and it rattles. Does that mean it is faulty. Somewhere I saw that this is a sign of a fault. Is that correct ?
How much are they ?
The numbers on it are 182225 06
and another number 90 26 8 17 GMB MOD 501 Made in USA.Thanks for all the assistance.
