ParticipantI have a Hotpoint WMA50 every works apart from the motor when inspecting the motor i notice that the connections to the motor (on motor side) had a black burn mark (brush pins), it has also blown one of the tracks on the PCB. i metered the motor out and had a dead short between blue and the white wire which connects to the motor brushes.
Which pins should i meter out to confirm motor is blown?May 28, 2011 at 3:34 pm #352411electrofix

you may not be reading a dead short across the armature or field coil is quite a low reading so it may seem dead short but is not
had one the other day the brushes had gone and as they sparked when they fail it had blown pcb check brushes if worn replace and repair pcb and see what happens
beware on this model the wires rub on the concrete weight and can cause similar problemsdont forget to unplug before dimantling

The brushs still have about 1/2 an inch left on them. When i turn the motor by hand one way its smooth. When i turn the opposite way it seems to have a little rattled
I metered the motor again The coils seem and the armature have a low readings
but i now have a dead short between yellow and blackMay 28, 2011 at 4:40 pm #352413electrofix

the little rattle may be ok the magnets on the rear of the motor come loose and make a rattling sound
dont have diagram so cant comment on colours but you have 3 circuits in the motorarmature 2 wires
field coil 2 or 3 wires
tacho 2 wiresmeasuring a similar motor i get
armature 3 ohm
field coil with 3 wire coil you can get 0.6 ohm or 1.2 ohm the third wire connect to the coil middle so you get half
tacho 136 ohmso you can see the field coil looks like a short circuit but its not
it is difficult to decide if motor has blown. one of the faults you get is when the tacho magnet (which may be you rattle ) stops turning and the programmes tries to turn a full load of washing with the water in at spin speed this overloads the motor and blows the track on the board.
you have to look what you had in machine if it was a very heavy load it may well be if you repaired programmer it may work ok
but i cant promiseDave

I think i located the problem.
I had a look at the machine again and removed the motor harness the plug that connects to the motor two of the pin were short circuiting where the plastic motor plug had melted.I have replaced this plug with one from a scrap machine
I have a bit of difficulty puting the top back on the plug i just pushed it into place with a pair of pliers but It doesnt seem very strong a hard pull and i think it would come offMay 30, 2011 at 4:49 pm #352415paul161201
