KeymasterHi all.
Got a problem with the dryer on my WDM130 which keeps tripping. I’ve broused the forum and read several articles about this but would appreciate further guidance.
The pump works and I’ve cleaned the filter (which was quite blocked due to washing some very fluffy blankets).
The solenoid valve to the dryer works and passes water to the condenser.
The condenser fan workes.
The heating elements are OK and get power (when not tripped).
I’ve reset the trip (the one at the front, the one at the back is OK) and put a couple of items in and the dtyed OK. Put a bigger load in (but definately not overloaded!) and it starts off OK but then trips.
Thanks for any replies

Assuming the machine works perfectly OK on the wash programmes ?
It can only be one of two things, the dryer heating element (the most likely) or a chaffed lead rubbing against an earthed point in the machine.
Whatever you do, please ensure the appliance is unplugged when checking.

If you have to reset the thermal trip it is likely caused by 2 possibilities :-
1). The plastic condensor ducting on the back of the tub is blocked with fluff or :
2). Someone has switched the dryer off before it has completed the final part of the drying cycle – the last 10 minutes- the cool down period 😉
I would think a fluff blockage the more likely 8)

We’re on two trains of thought here, I am assuming it’s the house trip that is being thrown by the machine, reading again, I think Martin is on the right track as it’s the manual reset thermostats that require resetting.
Yes/No ?

Thanks all for your replies.
I reset the dryer trip again when I posted my query and the dryer has been used a couple of times without tripping – yet!
If it goes again, which I’m expecting it to do, I think my next step will be to have a look at the plastic condensor ducting on the back as suggested by Martin. As I said the pump filter was solid due to washing (and drying – which I forgot to mention) some blankets which were very fluffy.
I’ll let you know what I find. Thanks.

ParticipantCheck the short rubber hose the bottom of the condenser housing while you’re at it – it blocks regularly.

OK, the Wife can put the pegs away (for now at least!).
We were all right. No sooner had I submitted my last post than it tripped again.
Off with the top, off with the back and out with the screwdrivers. A bit of a fiddling and the condenser unit is in my hands. Well it was full (and the rubber hose). Just couldn’t believe it and was surprised that I’ve not had problems sooner. The ‘very fluffy blankets’ I mentioned were bright orange – don’t panic they’re only for my dogs beds – but what I cleaned out had very little orange in it (that was all pulled out of the pump filter previously) and looks like it’s been accumulating since purchased about 5 years ago.
All back together now and working a treat. Dare I say it, I’m pretty confident that all will be well 😀 . You’ll be hearing from me again if not!
Thanks again for all your help
Scrappy
PS Sound advice Dave about unplugging. Pretty obvious but it’s easy to get carried away when you’re on a mission and forget the obvious.

Yes, it is. Even we do it sometimes 😉

Hi
My Hoover WMD 130 seems to have the same problem as the original poster. Before I take the machine apart can you please tell me where the ‘thermal trip switch’ is, so I can try that first.
Regards
Matt

TOCs are located on top of the heater box. Power off before touching anything. Bear in mind that tripped TOCs are a symptom; you have to find the cause.
