    Hello,

I see some ovens have “easy clean” enamel finish, whereas others boast catalytic liners. Are either any good? If the oven is brand new and you keep on top of it, is enamel easy clean? I can imagine if you leave stuff to bake onto it, it won’t be as easy as the manufacturer’s claim!

What about these catalytic liners. Are they worth paying the extra for? Are all sides of the oven lined with them, because iof not, I guess there is still cleaning to be done?

    Thanks,

I’m sure this has come up before but no matter…

Enamel liners you can scrub but stuff will bake onto them over time, like oven trays and racks, this is known as a “patina” and is normal. It’s actually desirable on some baking trays and things by chefs apparently. However, it can give rise to smoking and odours if not kept in check.

Catalytic liners “burn” the grease off as it splatters onto them and will self clean to a degree if you burn the grease off using a high oven temperature every now and then. The downside is that if you get any cleaning fluids on them then they’re done for.

Whether they are worth the extra or not is open to debate.

A full catalytic self cleaning oven is a totally different animal altogether.
