Called to one yesterday. When she turned on the back left ring she hears a bang and then trips the switch. Had a look and it’s coming from the switch, it’s the open contact type red colour ones. One of the contacts is melted and that’s where the flashing is coming from. Checked the wires and they are ok and the ring looks good too. What has caused this? Just a faulty switch? Is this the way these switches die? The way the contacts are melted it’s like a short but can’t find one.
What did it trip, the cooker mcb or the main RCD? If it was the RCD it might be worth a Megger test on the ring insulation when you fit the new energy regulator.
