Fridge recommendation – Bosch KGN39VL30G / KGV39VW30G

Right, so our 15 year old Hotpoint Mistral has packed in and we need a replacement quick. I kind of like the idea of an American style – but high running costs, and high purchase cost is making my shy towards something else (plus my wife thinks they are hideous).

I like Bosch as a brand – but i’m open to other quality brands. I would like something on the large side – but i’m limited to 60cm wide at the moment, but I can extent on height – so I found some 200cm high Bosch ones at the Bosch site:

KGV39VW30G

KGN39VL30G

These basically look like the same fridge with the latter being a frost free model.

The KGV39VW30G model also seems to have more fridge and less freezer (which suits me as I have a separate chest freezer in the garage).

So my questions:

1) Are these any good? Will they last 15 years like my previous Hotpoint?

2) I’m a bit weary of anything not frost free – am I going to be disappointed? Will I be defrosting my freezer every couple of months?

3) It looks like the KGN39VL30G is perhaps only available in silver? No White? Bit odd, but I can live with it if necessary.

4) Any recommendations on an extended warranty – i.e. 5 years?

Is there any other quality brand with similar specs and size which I might look at? I’m not looking for cheap, i’m looking for best bang for my buck. The KGN39VL30G is about 650 pounds – i’m open to paying more if I will get less trouble of out it. Over 10-15 years, its really not alot.
