ParticipantHotpoint HM312I fridge freezer
Have a customer with a Hotpoint HM312I fridge freezer that has the bottom compartment nicely frozen up but the top fridge part is reading plus 16 * C with an ambient temp of 24* C
As there is only one compressor on this model what would be the likely fault?
Would have thought that if it was a thermostat problem then both compartments would have been very cold if stuck on and both warm if not running correctly.Anybody help me as I do not repair that many Hotpoint refrigeration units.

as this is a wet wall fridge system with a thermostat control, it has to be a system fault for te fridge not to work, refrigerant leak of weak pumping compressor.

Thanks Bob
Still scratching my head over this one as the freezer compartment at the bottom is well and truly frozen? So the compressor must be running but why is the fridge compartment at the top reading plus 16 degrees centigrade.
Is the thermostat tube mounted into the freezer section with the actual stat in the top?Hope to pop in when the owners are at home later today to have a closure look at the fridge unit.

as bobehope said its a system fault weak compressor, low on gas, even a blokedge can cause this fault the stat is just a
a switch its either on or off to run the compressor .July 8, 2011 at 7:23 pm #355090BobHope

the thermostat is located in the fridge section, the cooling process starts in the freezer evaporator first and then reaches the fridge hidden evaporator section when the freeer is at approx -24c, lack of refrigerant is the most likly cause to your problem, but you need to access the system to realy check this.
Bob.
Cheers loopey for the second opinion.

Thanks BobHope and Loopey
Yes that all makes sense once you have pointed out the problem of the top half staying warm and not cooling down.
Will be popping in on Monday to take a close look at the compressor and have just found out it had been rented out to a family that have kicked in the door, smashed a window etc.
Properly find the back has been damaged and the gas has been slowly leaking out before the new tenant comes in.The new website is a great improvement; take my hat off to the IT staff.
