Participanti seem to have a rather strange problem with my tumble dryer (condenser).
it is a 230v supply but for some reason i get 100v throughout the outer
case hence it keeps tripping out my RCD at the fuse board. i am an
electrician i can work out that i obviously have leakage to earth
somewhere but could somebody please point me in the right direction thanksrich.
p.s make-creda model-t601cw. bought it around 1999.

Rich,
Most likely it is caused by condensation building up in the heater casing? Unplug the machine and remove the rear heater cowling, check the element fixing carefully. Also could be something like a hairgrip, silver foil or even a bra wire caught thru the back of the drum onto the element 😯
Also empty the water reservoir, remove and flush clean the condensor unit, clean the lint filter and inside the door panel.
That should cover it 😆

You say you are an electrician, therefore I assume youv’e taken an earth loop reading between a known earth and the cabinet as well as an insulation test, L/N to Earth with a meggar. With it unplugged then with the use of a meter it would be a safe 5 minute job to isolate the cause.
The use of a meggar is a better way of determining the fault than taking a voltage reading between the shell & earth. I’m sorry if I’m questioning your methodlogy but I would suspect the moment you try & read a potential difference between a live point & earth your RCCD would pop out anyway.
I do feel you need to investigate that the appliance does indeed have a sound earth of less than 0.1 ohms before you start looking elsewhere. Sounds like you may be using from an adaptor or extension lead. Whatever, I don’t recommend “Live Testing” in this instance.
Any doubt, call in the experts.

Hi I have come accross this fault many times over the years on washers, dryers and twin tubs and the leakage is allways around 100 volts and the most common cause I have found is people useing a double adaptor the earth contacts on these things are just not good enough. I know there are other causes but I allways say start at the begining and work up
