ParticipantHas anyone heard of a requirement, in a commercial situation (in this case a vets practice), for needing a non-return valve between the cold supply and a washing machine? South West water specify it must be fitted or the washing machine must have a ‘certificate’ that confirms it can’t ‘pollute’ the incoming water supply? This is a new one on me!

There are several posts here on that very subject, damned hard to find with a search though.
I think most of them relate to the outgoing water though.
AFAIK all machines made for many years now have some form of air break to prevent any contamination of the mains supply.

Thanks Iadom. I found the posts and (obvious) problems with non return valves on the outlet hose but on the inlet it’s a new one on me. Just concerned as I don’t want to supply my usual Bosch machines and find the customer isn’t happy! I’ll keep digging! Incidentally the Whirlpool machine they had, does have the required certificate, but he can’t find it?!?

I remember them coming with Miele commercial washers to comply with WRAS regulations , they’re like this..

Thanks very much Seamy. Good info I’ll track down that link, not working at the moment. I guess though that once a non return valve is fitted correctly, any machine will comply with the regs? Cheers

Link only gets me as far as screwfix but a blank page, have searched the site and found the right valve. Thanks all for the help!
