ModeratorA heads up for anyone who uses the Qualtex BKT88 rear shaft & bearing kit for the Hotpoint/Indesit tumble dryers.
I fitted one four days ago, got a call back this morning. The new shaft has come completely adrift from the round plate that screws to the drum. 👿

ModeratorRe: Warning, Qualtex BKT88 failure
stopped using them a while ago had a word with qualtex but nobody else had probs so that was it
my failure was a bkt87 kit
rear bearing wore through in under 14 days and front bearings were noisy fitted gen no probs after that
it was a high use site but it proves that sometimes the extra for the gen part is worth it
we need feedback on this site for bad non gen parts. it will do 2 things
1 it will alert us to bad parts and avoid call backs
2 it will alert suppliers to problems and hopefully improve quality of non gen parts overallDave

Yes indeed, in fact in the last 11 months I’ve fitted 2, both of which have failed. I never bothered to report it to Qualtex though as I assumed the 2 dryers in question were well used, well old and not worth the bother TBH.
I’ve since used a new found formulae I downloaded from the Ministry of Hard Knocks: —
Problem : Fit crap parts to crap machines (1 + 1) = 2 loads of more crap.
Solution:
Don’t attempt to repair crap.😈

I have also had one of those fail just the same as in the picture, replaced it with a gen shaft and not had to go back since.

Have found with these bearing kits the screws Qualtex provide are very poor, had a couple of shaft problems which I think were caused because with Qualtex screws it’s very difficult to refit shaft securely. Now fit but reusing Hotpoint screws, prevents shaft from moving around and touch wood no recalls.

As this forum is sponsered by Qualtex have they had anything to say on this subject?

I have always re used the original screws, mainly use the 1703080 kit but thought I would try a few of these BKT88 kits. 😥
This was definitely nothing to do with loose screws, it had only been used 3 or 4 times.July 21, 2011 at 11:49 pm #355927leavemetogetonwithit

Good idea. I’d been thinking of mentioning the pattern brushes (Bsh + Hpt) very cheap from one particular wholesaler but some of which go, “ping”, lose their tails and go flying across the room and under some piece of furniture just as you go to install them 👿 :offtopic: .

Used one of these kits in one about 2 months ago. Got a call back but was just the belt broke. Think something may have got stuck in it. The shaft seems to be still ok and it’s high use.

The supplier would be good to name as it allows us to avoid the same happening.

I had hoped that might be enough of a clue. Let’s just say Connect’s pattern brushes are much more pricey but I’ve never had a problem with them. And the only other supplier I use with any regularity is the sponsor of the Trade Parts forum.

I’m sure pattern carbons no matter who supplies them all come from the same source anyway. Door boots, pumps and oven elements too can only possibly be knocked out by a handful of manufacturers somewhere in Spain or Italy and sold in vast quantities to dozens of wholesalers all over Europe.
