Our ten year old washing machine has followed the lead of our dishwasher and died just days after!
Make Whirlpool, door label bears :- IPX4. Type D235. AWM 6103. Made in Italy. 12 NC-8570 610 2900. 54051. (A forum search = no trace on any number combinations except IPX4)
Having removed the top & confirmed power at the input point, I unplugged power and removed the PCB behind the front control panel – no sign of dry joints or arcing. Replaced it and re-connected the power to hear a brief whir and sparks/smoke emanating from the main control unit at the top, right, front of the machine. Now no life whatsoever. No obvious burning/arcing on the unit but it is not possible to examine it in detail without dismantling. The unit bears the numbers 3322AC.02. 461971067641. On the rear is a bar code, the numbers 461974480081 and the date 04/07/00. Not sure where to look next.
Any helpful suggestions before it follows the dishwasher to the tip?

As it’s so rare this happens, I’ll say it…

    I’d agree wholeheartedly with Martin.

Thanks for the advice guys – in reality just what I expected – it’ll go to join it’s stable-mate at the recycle plant!
Having been very satisfied with the Whirlpool and how it has endured hard labour for ten years we’ve bough another of the same make and (hopefully) quality but with the optional five year warranty. Keeping our fingers crossed!!
