Had to replace a Hotpoint RF61P thermostat recently which wasn’t cooling in fridge compartment, hadn’t the exact T’Stat in my van so put in a standard VC09 ‘stat. Now the customer complains of over freezing all the time, the ‘stat that was in had 1 small lug & 2 large lugs for cable connections, i’ve ordered one from Hotpoint p’no 2600413 but it won’t be with me for days, beginning of next week they say, will any other type of ‘stat do the same??

Yeah we had exactly the same problem with one of these.

If you fit a VT9 with an insulated capillary and don’t put any excess behind the evaporator it should be OK. Although it took me 2 attempts to get it right.

You could also try a VXO stat which reacts at a lower temperature than a VT9.

i would sugest a genuine stat if you can these and some of the candys are a bit funny with ranco stats i think the vxo is the next best if not

    Hi all
While we are the subject of fridge stats, does anyone know the differance if you clamp on with or without the insulation onto the evap plate ❓
I know this is basic stuff but I cant seem to recall it. 😕

Well, if you clamp the actual insulated sleeve to the evap over the end of the capillary, it just won’t react as quickly. The “cold” will take longer to penetrate as it will have to cool the insulated sleeve first.

In general if I fit a universal VT9, even if the original had sleeving right to the end, I’ll leave the end of the new stat capillary open and fix it directly to the evaporator. Whether this is correct or not, I have very few problems, if any at all.

Are we talking about continuous ice buildup on the evaporator? Had this recently with a kelvinator fridge freezer after fitting VT9 stat. Fitted a RF61 stat no problems since. Does this mean the +3.5degrees defrost on the ranco was not correct? Ice cannot exist at this temp so in theory the stat should not be able to switch on the compressor until water is seen.

Kelvinators and Candy other built machines need a +5 cut off for the wet wall ones, use a VS9 (IIRC) 😉
