ParticipantWorked on a Whirlpool AWM 5104/3 (8570 510 15330) today, won’t turn drum with belt on pulley but will turn motor with belt disconnected, took off motor & brushes were o.k, there were signs of burning on a few segments of motor, cleaned armature but still no better.
When machine starts any programme motor gives 1 turn & pump will run but no water fills into machine, does it do an automatic functional test every time before starting wash?? Machine is used in hairdressing salon & would run from 9-5 5 days a week, not over 12 months old yet but not covered by warranty as it is used in commerial premises.October 7, 2004 at 12:03 pm #117639Dave_Conway

Alnost certainly the motor IMO.
Part number 4819 361 58264 – list price is £110.28 ex VAT 😯
Yeah, they do a functional test before starting the main programme, there should be a fault code of some desription I think as well, not too sure on that one though.
Try looking in the known fault codes section in this forum, all the Whirlpool codes are there.

Yep  Motor cooked and likely the filter/sump hose/ball valve clogged 🙁 (The norm for hairdressing salons 😉 )

Off the top of me head, I don’t think this one gives error codes nor is there a diagnostic program for it. I can check the service manual if you want but as far as I remember the service manual for this model only shows the wash programs, some tech data and parts lists.
For what it’s worth, I agree with Dave and Martin, sounds like the motor is burned out.

this is interesting as ..if the customer shouts loud enough whirlpool usually will cover appliances in commercial properties for in guarantee .
For instance pubs with tumble dryers were always done in guarantee, no matter what the fault and what the spares cost. One whirlpool manager once said to me “just keep fixing it and eventually the problem goes away in most cases”, he was right.
I should stress if was of the old school and an engineer , unlike the new breed who are useless.kevin
